I assume comely rather homely is meant. -

No, that's the idea. It's the idea that Barrymore is attracted to this rather homely looking nurse. I hope that story was true.
It's a line that should be true if not. I love Barrymore's other expression, "Die? I think not. No Barrymore would ever allow such a thing."
Some may think these quotes are just apart of the Barrymore legend, but I wouldn't be surprised if either were true.
