I thought she should have won an Oscar since I saw her in Being Julia. She was tremendous in that and thought that The Kids Are All Right would finally make this year her year to win. I think she may win for the new Rob R238einer film, but we will have to wait and see ultimately.

shes obviously a great trained actress. i know shes happy with her kids and husband.but man the career she could have had!! she was offered the role of catwoman OVER michelle pfeiffer back in 1992 but had to pass since she was pregnant. can you imagine her playing that then? (ive never been a big michelle pfeiffer fan). and she would have worked all throughout the 90s. but she stopped working and had 4 kids and then the roles dried up somewhat. i think eventually she will win one. i mean henry fonda won for on golden pond when he was in his 80s so you never know.

Ha!
As though Ms. Bening doesn't take on challenging roles? I've seen
Black Swan
and
Boys Don't Cry
, and she had more challenging tasks than b68either Swank or Portman. I understand why they gave the Oscar to Portman, but her performance in
American Beauty
is one of the greatest of all time. She was so subliminal, and she was heartbreaking to watch. I didn't recognize her when I watched AB, I saw a woman going through Hell.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, if it's okay with you. When I watched American Beauty, I was eerily reminded of my mother in the scene where she's in the house she's trying to sell, breaking down. I was haunted by it. If anything, they should have tied the award that year. Hell, if Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand can win in the same year, then so could have Bening and Swank.

'Will she ever win an Oscar?' I sure hope so. She and Glenn Close are two of the best actresses out there and with all of the ten nominations they've received combined, they should both have at least one by now. It's sad that Annette has given so many worthy performances, but loses to Hilary Swank twice (Hilary deserved it for Boys Don't Cry, but definitely not for Million Dollar Baby), whereas Sandra Bullock gets one ordinary performance and wins an Oscar. But hey, look at all of the roles Annette has taken on lately. With at least one of these, she should be bound for at least a nomination. However, she better WIN!!

A lot of actresses have been nominated quite a few times but never won. Not just Annette but also Julianne Moore, Marsha Mason and the great Glenn Close.
You know what you are? You're the son of a thousand fathers. All bastards like you. -

Sigourney Weaver, Laura Linneythe list goes on and on.
That said, Bening is overdo for a win.
I didn't like Running with Scissors when it was first release, but realize after recently seeing it again it was my fault, for simply didn't get it at the time.
In retrospect, it's sad that it seems that the Academy member felt the same way, for forget about a nod, Bening should have taken home the award for that performance. -

Yes - I think she'll get an Oscar. However, I have a feeling it will be one of those cases in which it wasn't nearly one of the actor's best role, but they were due for one.
imho - American Beauty was her best role. Unfortunately it was in a year in which another actress gave a performance which was one of the most memorable performances of all time (Hillary Swank - Boys Don't Cry). -

I really hope she wins one at some point. I normally don't focus on "acting," good or bad. But for some reason whenever I see a movie with Bening in it, it always occurs to me "Now this is some damn great acting." Even in Mars Attacks! Seriously, I remember thinking "This is just a little role in totally silly movie but she's killing it." She was amazing in The Grifters, she was amazing in American Beauty I need to track down more of her stuff. The only other time in recent memory where someone's acting was so good that I couldn't help but notice and be impressed was Christoph Waltz in Inglourious Basterds .

Annette has The Seagull coming out in 2016. I think she has a good chance of being nominated for itthat is, if it's any good. And if she is nominated, and since she's long overdue, she has a good chance of winningunless she's up against another actress who's long overduelike Glenn Close or Laura Linney. Or she's up against Hilary Swank again.
