i know. i've never been a big fan of michelle pfeiffer. i think she has a beautiful face but is otherwise boring and to me a pretty sh*tty actress. you can tell she has no training. but annette bening? she would have been insane as catwoman. she's still attractive but back then, perfect figure (watch the grifters), great feline looking face (like a young julie newmar), and a tremendous actress. just terrific actress. she would have been 1000X better than pfeiffer. but she had to get pregnant.

I love Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman (actually, I love her in general), however I would have loved to see Annette Bening take the part, I can really see her in the role. She would have played it a little more psychotic, I think. Would have been excellent, and I would imagine better than Pfeiffer's already amazing Catwoman.

Has anyone heard her complain about her career? Is it possible she is having exactly the career she wants? Just because Streep has also had four kids and kept her career going for 30+ years, do all actresses have to do the same? The fa1ebcct that she has made few films makes me think that is what she wants.

And not everyone is as ambitious as Meryl Streep to play every great role ever made for a woman. It's still not easy to work constantly when you have 4 kids.
Also she's married to Warren Beatty. I get the sense that Warren Beatty is very demanding of attention and doesn't like when his women work too much. I believe it was Michelle Phillips who said Beatty told her not to take a film role because he didn't want her working too much and he said their relationship would be over she did. Julie Christie didn't work much at all while she was Beatty (which was probably fine with her since she hated hollywood) and even Diane Keaton didn't work very much during her Beatty years. Bening probably wants to find the perfect balance like anyone and keep her husband and family happy.

I always thought it was sdean Young who lost out for being pregnant.
I think in the long run it did not help Michelle Pfeiffer too much.
Howeevr bening is doing fine, still making good movies and still getting Oscar noms and manages to balance family life.

I think she's doing quite well, actually.
I think Catwoman would have done wonders for her back in the day, but she's havin5b4g a fantastic career now, all things considered. She's scored 4 Oscar nominations over a span of 20 years, which is pretty unusual. She's very well-regarded. Sigourney Weaver and Glenn Close are great, but as another poster mentioned, their last Oscar nominations were over 20 years ago. This isn't to say they couldn't land an amazing role, knock it out of the park, and win one but Annette is doing quite well, especially for an actress in her 50's. The roles tend to dry up around then, but she's still getting good work. I hope she capitalizes on her recent successes, though, and takes on some strong follow-up projects. I'm a little dismayed to see how little she has coming up.
Personally, I thought Michelle Pfeiffer was astonishing as Catwoman, but Annette would have also been excellent. -

I don't think that the comparison to Streep is fair. She's a different generation. They don't compete for parts.
There is a parrallel. Both she and Streep didn't get into the movies until they were both nearly 30. That really doesn't happen anymore. I know Streep went to drama school at Yale and did stage work in the 70's, but I don't know if Bening had a similar start or how old she was when she went to drama school.
4 kids, so what. Maybe she likes her family life and only works when she really likes a script. -

Four Academy Award nods and Bening is not a household name and Disclosure and/or Freaky Friday were career making roles?
I don't believe anyone cares who did or did not play Catwoman as far as it being a spring board for other roles. At least not today, for it's an old film.
That said, more so than Bening, Pfeiffer has become known the last twenty years for turning down roles that were extremely successful by other actress,(i.e Jody Foster's role in Silence of the Lambs).
Lastly, Bening's Filmography has faired better than Pfeiffer's over that last decade. -

The Grifters and Bugsy were both big hits which did give her star status. Bening's choice afterwards was to make babies instead of films.
I also thing she was wise to pass on Disclosure and instead chose to work with Douglas the following year in The American President which was also a hit and ultimately a much more sophisticated role. -

REALLY?
It's a myoptic approach to an understanding of stardom if it's judged solely on box office and figures pulled from the internet.
Furthermore, The Grifters earned Bening her first Oscar nod and a three million dollar paycheck for Batman Returns. When her pregnancy required she forfeit the role, Michelle Pfeiffer was offered one million for the same part, proving that Bening was considered, at least to the Batman franchisee, to be the bigger star. -

Except for The Grifters, in which she was great, the rest of Benings career consists of scenery chewing which would make you think she had just escaped from a North Korean internment camp.

Bening has given some memorable performances but also some pretty terrible ones. She is a talented but uneven actress who needs very firm direction, and lots of it. As far as her marriage, how many wonderful performances has Beatty given in the past 20 years?
All told, I think shes had a good run of it. We cant all be Meryl.

Yeah, Bening is rather inconsistent. But she never hit the top, regardless. Thats the point. But maybe the lack of consistency/discipline or whatever was as much the issue with her career as Beatty was.

Annette Bening made the choice early on to stay away from commercial films without what she considered to be high artistic merit. She came close to doing FREAKY FRIDAY and dropped out anyway a2000nd that script was about as good as family friendly studio movies get.
