She was, and she indeed should have!
Following up Conan, she played an over-the-top villainess in "Red Sonja," which happened to also star none other than Arnold. You have to love her as Queen Gedreneven in a black wigbut I think the role may have hurt her career in the long run.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

I just logged in to make the same comment. Her acting (and body) were phenomenal in Conan. How she didn't take over is beyond me.

While I admit that Ms. Berman is a fabulous dancer and perfect for the rol2000e of Valeria with a great screen presence and physique perfect for the role, her performances have always been a bit on the wooden side. Now, it could very well be that she never really got a chance with a good and inspiring script and was never really given a chance to show her acting "chops." I've always been a big fan OF hers, but facts is facts.

I can't speak to her other roles, but as ValeriaBergman was just wonderful. It is a very fine role, considering her background is really in dance and not acting. Her speech when she asks Conan to stay and love her, rather than pursue revenge, is very moving. In fact considering this is a pop culture sort of film the entire love story between Valeria and Conan is surprisingly effective. They are two equals, and really seem to be in love. And Bergman, while attractive, is not a standard "pretty starlet" but a powerful and strong woman on her own. I see a resemblance here between her character of Valeria as a fighter and many years later, Uma Thurman in "Kill Bill (1 and 2)". I am sure that Tarantino, being such a giant film buff, was influenced by this tall, blonde athletic woman in a role of physical power.
I am very sorry she apparently never had another chance to play really worthy role. The only other thing I have seen her in is "All That Jazz" in fact, saw it yesterday! and among a group of amazing Fosse dancers, she stands out in a wordless part as the lead dancer in the "Air-otica" dance segment.
But that's literally all I know of her. I can see here on IMDb she did a lot of small TV parts, and seems to have retired in 2003 at the age of only 51. Too bad.

I've always remembered Valeria talking with Conan about how she was alone in the world and would pass by houses where the people were together.
