Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Corbin Bernsen

Man, he's really going all out with the Christian filmmaking thing lately.
Is this a recent development? Or has he always been this, um, 'devout?' The guy is working for Rick Santorum's film production company. I feel I must ask questions.

i know its been a year but:
i dont know anything about his religious or political beliefs, but i do know he starred in the movie Judgment back in 2001. it is all about how Christian's think the world is going to end with the the Antichrist taking over and Christians somehow becoming a persecuted minority. i think it was made by the Left Behind people. at the time i cant see that being a big role (compared to other stuff he could get) so id imagine he chose to stare in it because hes both Christian and feels strongely enough in his beliefs to express them with his acting talents (for better or for worse). while i may not agree with them, i can respect that. its better than simply giving his beliefs lip service. he actually does something.
i watched Judgement the other day because i remembered watching a Christian movie with Mr T in it. his parts were deliciously terrible and even if it wasnt Christian he probably needed the work. but in watching it i was surprised to see Corbin Bersen in the leading role. i know hes a decent actor and ive seb68en him in some good things. its not like he was half-assing it either. you can tell he treated his role seriously. his parts make what would otherwise seem like pure cheese into something more enjoyable. its not an entirely bad movie either. at one point, his character decides to put God on trial and he manages to make it sound plausible as opposed to just plain silly. the trial aspect kept my attention and the movie did well when it was asking metaphysical questions. of course it it fell apart at the end when they started throwing out logically fallacies to justify the movies point. and most everything away from the trial had bad acting and delved into the more absurd ideas taught by churches about the end of the world. and in those parts Mr T is there to take the absurd and turn it into some comic gold.
very strange movie. very strange to see Mr Bersen in it. it kind of makes me sad because id wish everyone could learn how to recognize fallacies/falsehoods masquerading as truth. i dont begrudge him for his faith. i just wish he would promote it in films they present it in a way that encourages believers to care about presenting themselves in the most honest light possible. not that Bersen is a liar its just easy for some people to not treat good-sounding ideas with scrutiny especially if they are popular among ones peers. its easy to pass off this inattention to others which distracts from the reality of things. everyone does it to some degree. thats why its important to analyze some of the claims you are making. for instance in this movie, Bernsen's character makes the point that people are not willing to die to for something that isnt true/good/etc. he threatens to shoot the Antichrist unless someone stands in front of him. of course in the film no one is willing to take his place. in this world only Christian's are willing to martyr themselves because they know the truth. there are countless reasons why this is just plain wrong. it only undermines the films beliefs when they bookend them with a fiction like like that. it makes it look like religion cant intellectually defend itself without resorting to trickery, even though im sure thats not the case. it doesnt help that the film has lots of strawmen and other misguided appeals. it muddies the message. its a shame because it actually presented some interesting well reasoned points about certain secular ideals (like unity, equality, peace, environmentalism, etc). stuff like that it could deliver subtly. some times it would demonstrate about how the lines on many issues is really gray and easy to go too far one way or the other. they even showed how easily it was for Christians to get overzealous and militant when they feel persecuted. so many rich ideas. id love to see more films that focus on intellectually honest debates and not close the discussion with painting yourself overly favorably at the de5b4terminant to those you are trying to save in the first place. but i dunno. hes just an actor. and for all i know hes grown to understand some of the flaws im making a big deal about in the first place. and if not, i hope he is open minded enough to question the information hes given and the information he speaks. its something each of us needs to practice. if it makes him a better Christian so be it. i dont expect someone to believe like me. i just hope they care enough to try spread only true things, no matter how good/bad they sound.

Yes, he has been "born again"i.e., dropped off the edge of his flat earth of reason and sanity, and has devoted his life to the Lord and snow-globes, the latter in which he has apparently taken up residence

This article that someone had posted on this board answers that question.
