For me, it was NOTES ON A SCANDAL (2006) and then THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY (1999) that really made me a fan.
I saw her and thought she had one of the friendliest smiles I had ever seen. Her sparkling blue eyes dazzled me, and her roses-and-milk complexion bowled me over!
It might seem inconsequential to lik5b4ing her as an actress, but for me, unless they are playing a villain or funny character part, I need to be attracted to an actor, looks and all. It is only then that I find myself really appreciating the talent that goes into their acting. And yes indeed, Ms. Blanchett is certainly talented!
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize! -

Not a fair question. Don't get me wrong, it's a good question that is so filled with possibilities. When I heard that they were making the actual Lord of the Rings series I was very excited. I read it 33 years ago when I was 14 and I thought they made a great selection for Galadriel as well as the rest of the cast. I also liked her in Elizabeth, the first and second one. However, though I had seen her in several movies before that and thought she was very eye catching, not just in beauty but in a way as in someone you would notice.
The movie I really liked her in is one that was not necessarily a block buster film and I really thought she played the character very well was in The Gift where she plays a very nice Southern lady, single mother, widow raising two sons and has a sixth sense type of gift and is sought out after a girl is murdered. She totally embodies what I would call my view of the "New South" in that she wasn't playing a stereotype but instead played a very sweet, kind and strong woman and was very real and likeable. I would have to say at that point is when I totally fell in love with her. I always like her movies, but if any one gets a chance, I hope you check out "The Girt" it came out in 2000 and has a great cast. -

It feels silly now that I didn't fall in love with Cate or even pay attention to her until Blue Jasmine. I'd generally known of her as an actress but was never into her. Then, I heard all the hype around Blue Jasmine about her performance and I wanted to see what it was all about. Then, I watched it and I was totally mesmerized and became a fan.
Then, I went back and watched her in Elizabeth, Notes on a Scandal, The Aviator, etc. Now, it's a full-blown obsession and she's one of my top three favorite actresses. -

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou mostly because i beep love that Wes Anderson movie, way7ec more than all the others, but I guess that's where I noticed her, and in every other movie she's in, she's totally believable as that character. I can think of no other actor/actress with such a huge range of which characters/psyches she can inhabit maybe, maybe Dustin Hoffman maybe.
