Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Danny Boyle

In 2013 Boyle and his Slumdog Millionaire collaborator Simon Beaufoy were announcing a ten part miniseries that would tell the more detailed story of the Norwegian Resistance and its campaign with the British to blow up the heavy water production facility in Norway. The facility was part of the Nazis' own version of the Manhattan Project, their attempt to come up with A-bombs before we did.
There have been at least two movies about this, one in the late 1940s in Norwegian with some of the Resistance fighters playing themselves, and the other starring Kirk Douglas and Richard Harris in Heroes of Telemark back around 1966 (haven't seen either). But from what I read this miniseries was supposed to be well funded and much more detailed. Sounded like it would have the kind of budget and quality of Band of Brothers.
No sign of it in Boyle's IMDb credits here, nor in Simon Beaufoy's. Does anyone know what happened to this or whether it's still on the drawing board?

That series you're talking about was referenced in an interview with Danny Boyle back in October of last year. That's not very recent, obviously, but certainly more recent than 2013. And it did seem to still be in the works then, even if referred to as "further down the food chain". Whether things that are so further down the food chain will actually get made, though, is a different question. Directors (some actors too) always seem to have eyes bigger than their stomach, in that they can't possibly complete all the projects they theoretically seem to have in development.
Reality is that the highest priority project Danny Boyle has on his books at the moment, is the one that's been announced only recently, and that's the "Miss Saigon" musical.
