Other than as the good witch in "Wizard Of Oz" and a ghost with Cary Grant in the movie "Topper", my main remembrance of her is on a record my paternal grandparents had by Tennessee Ernie Ford, in which he sang an old song called "Take Your Girlie To The Movies". One of the lines was "Though she's just a simple little ribbon clerk, close your eyes and think you're kissing Billie Burke".
She was a lovely lady who held her beauty a long, long time, RIP Billie. -

If you like Billie, you should see her in a little-known, but funny, movie called Merrily We Live. She plays a ditzy matriarch of a well-to-do family. She frustrates her family by continually taking in tramps with the idea of reforming them. She's hysterical!

I saw
Dinner at Eight
only a while ago and I must admit that she sure was sup5b4er attractive for a woman only in her late forties when the film was made.
