Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Frank Capra

Who wrote this biography on Frank? Having human spirit and a want of freedom is NOT A MYTH! this is what this country (At least WAS) based on. His ACCURATE representation of the human condition was critical to the film industry and REAL. I knew Frank, well. he went through hell and back, and suffered many times, more than anyone nowadays could conceive of or even survive. This "Mythical" America full of emotions, ideals and hopes IS what makes for a country, not its spelled out, controlled social society. This is what this country lacks now, and it also lacks a Frank Capra, proud to call him my mentor and friend.

For a better look about the work of Capra, you should read "American Vision: The Films Of Frank Capra", written by Ray Carney.
And of course, the essential "The Name Above The Title: An Autobiography", by Frank Capra (Duh!).

Actually it has been a long time and I will do that again, but my main connection with Frank was personal, and what I learned about Frank was from Frank.
        Thanks,

When I view Capra films, the "mythical" aspect is the utter literal implausability of any of them, as well as the feel-good, bow-tie endings. I do appreciate Capra films as products of their time and he's underrated as a technical film director. What drives me mad at times in his films is the cliche-ridden dialogue, predictable "villianous Edward Arnold" types and the same background music and films ending with bells ringing half the time. That's overkill and the term Capracorn was invented in the 1930s so obviously some people noticed such things in his films as well.
