i am currently trying to aquaint myself with classic cinema and, obviously, Frank Capra is a director who has influenced filmakers alll over the world - but I would like to know which movies should i watch. I mean, what would be the movies which show his genius and what not? No doubt, all you guys out there are fans of some sort.
And Il check out your answers and then check out your other message boards to see what kind of film fan i am taking advice from (Preferably not a fan of 1c84XXX)
and the trees are stripped bare, of all they wear, what do I care? -

I must agree, simoncolumb, that "It Happened One Night" and "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" are great movies. Other than "Wonderful Life" they are the only two on the list that I have seen. I would actually put both of those over "Wonderful Life" but then I have problems with that movie that are either here nor there. I do, however, love James Stewart. "Harvey" is one of my favorite movies.

Not to mention ARSENIC AND OLD LACE, another Capra classic. After you watch the Capra movies, you need to see THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, one of the Coen Bros. films, which makes many references to Capra films.
