Mariah would be legally black throughout most of U.S. history and subject to its racist laws. She would've been a slave before emancipation and subsequently subject to Jim Crow laws. Historically and legally, Mariah would never be accepted as white since she has a black parent.
Mariah, her sister and parents know this because they experienced ongoing racism throughout her childhood. To pretend that she is white is to pretend that she hasn't suffered from racism as a racially-mixed person.
Perhaps you're unaware that black people come in all shades and different physical features because of centuries of race-mixing. Yes, some look white if you understand the "one-drop rule".
Mariah is black in U.S., white in Brazil, mixed-race in South Africa.
Furthermore, Italians, Irish, Greeks, Jews and Polish weren't considered white in the U.S. throughout most of U.S. history and they're still referred to as "ethnic whites". Immigration laws were written to keep Eastern and Southern Europeans out since they were considered undesirables and inferior to WASPs and other Western Europeans.
It's similar to how white Latinos aren't really accepted as white today.
It's all BS since racism is an excuse to privilege a specific group at the top of a socially-constructed racial hierarchy and discriminate against those below.
People say race is a social construct for a reason. -

"tan skin tone"
She's "tan" because of her racial mixture. She has a yellow undertone.
85% of whites have straight or wavy hair.
Her curly hair is from her white mom who had straight hair and her black dad who had coily hair. Her nose is from her dad. She has a receding chin which is common among African-Americans.

Plenty of girls have tan skin who she not black like Hispanic girls and also American girls. So just bc she has tan skin doesn't mean she is black.
She doesn't have yellow skin. She has tan skin tan isn't yellow it's tan color.
She has a white girl nose, very small and delicate looking, so it couldn't have come from her dad if he was black.

She gets to check 2 racial categories: black and white. My friend has like a vazillion Mariah Carey books and fan mags. I asked her once same question and she quoted from Carey s bio. Carey also experienced first hand racial insults as a kid and teen

Alfred Roy Carey was Mariah Carey's father, an aeronautical engineer of African American and Venezuelan descent. He passed away from cancer before Mariah was born, and she has since dedicated the song "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy" to his memory. His heritage introduced Mariah to Latin rhythms, while her mother's Irish heritage exposed her to classical music, shaping the diverse musical influences in her work.

He didn't pass away before Mariah was born. Her parentS were married and lived together for a while before splitting up. Mariah was there at her father's bedside when he died.
I watched her documentary.
Geesh…

Can I ask you a question, Cheeky?
Why is it that most things I do, people find so fascinating? You'd think that they had more interesting things to do with their fcuking life.
