It to bad he did not live another ten years when independent film really hit in the 90's. He could have made a few more films and gotten some go2000od acting roles like the Robert Foster role in Jackie Brown would have been a good one for him.

My #3 director (all-time) and also a wonderful actor. Fave performance = Mikey And Nicky ('76). Fave film he directed = A Woman Under The Influence.

I totally agree Jessica, but I didn't see many great independent films in the 90's. And most of what people think of indie wasn't indie, and in fact was a company under a big studio..
