Does anyone know why this book by Ray Carney has been delayed? My city library deleted all the holds on it & the original publication date has passed.

It's been suppressed by Gena Rowlands and Al Ruban, according to Carney. They're also disallowed the first version of Shadows and a whole new Cassavetes film which has never been seen. I sent him an email about it a few days ago, which is here:

When Rowlands passes on, I wonder if it will be released (surely Ruban can't block it) it will be a fascinating read for sure

I remember a very candid interview by Seymour Cassell that I read where he said he5b4 had tons of stories about John but didn't want to share them while she was alive; I did get the impression that she could be quite the iron lady when she wanted to be despite John's own forceful personality!

As much as I would love to see all the goodies Carney has hoarded over the years, I can understand where Gena is coming from. While she may be overly reticent (Just her self-conscious personality? Traits she adopted in order to stay sane juggling life as a famous actress, mother and concerned wife of an unpredictable firecracker of a husband? By-product of being an elderly woman?), Carney might be partially responsible. He seems to have done some stuff to break the circle of trust, so to speak, as his accounts about Big Bad Gena "suppressing" his research has more holes than Sonny Corleone's corpse. Maybe if Carney didn't wave his "Cassavetes expert" flag so vigorously, she would have probably let her guard down a bit.
That said, there still is the issue of the son and daughters. Will they play ball?
"John & Gena" coming to theaters Thanksgiving 2058? -

Most of the people still alive who knew Cassavetes best are all in their 80s now and probably won't be around by the time the actual so-called facts get published; so there's always going to be that doubt of how reliable these sources of infomation really are.
Either way, I'm very curious to hear the dirt on Cassavetes - the man. -

one thing I've found interesting is that Carney has gone on at length at how much John 'admired' him and his efforts-there's even a typed and signed upload of a letter JC sent to Carney in the mid to late 80's..however the diary book of the making of Love Streams by Michael Ventura clearly shows in the last chapter that an ill and weak Cassavetes strongly resented Carney and wanted nothing to do with him

He probably wore out his welcome. Being both an intrepid biographer and fan requires some restraint.
