Can anyone point to any specific comments he made about this film, i know he didnt want to, most of his actor choices were pretty solid bar this one, so why did he do it? the chance to work with Kirk Douglas?
I should be grateful though as this film was my entry into the world of Cassavetes, especially his 'explosive' performance in this film

Cassevetes acted in lots of stuff including a decent amount of atrocious stuff for the explicit purpose of raising money to make his own films as a director.

I would also like to know what his problem with it was; its an outstanding film.
But, of course, his and De Palmas directorial styles and interests couldnt have been more different.

John was well known for being difficult on sets, so much so that many producers wouldn't hire him It seems he just didn't always agree with how he was expected to act in mainstream films. Felt it was phoney, or something.
