I think Meryl Streep Looks like an actor in films, not like the character, you can see that she memorized her part and she over acts sometimes, and you see her thinking ahead when she speaks in the movies; thinking about the next few lines, about what to say next. (some other great actress said something like that) You can see that she is an actor in the movie, which kinda ruins the movie, she doesn't make you believe she is the character she's playing, being a great actor outside the movie is good but inside the movie, it ruins everything, unless she is suppose to be an actor in the movie. Sorry for repeating myself, but I was trying to make it clear, I hope its clear now.Oh maybe I just don't like her way of acting, in my OPINION, she is overrated, way too much, but most people seem to like her so I might look like an ass, but thats fine. I don't hate her or anything( I don't know her), is just the way she acts, maybe i need to watch more of her films.

There can be no universal agreement about any actor being the best. Just the fact that someone is praising Winona Ryder here is evidence enough. As someone who admires Meryl Streep along with many others, it is difficult to validate another's opinion about her performance in the Deer Hunter being poor. She was nominated for an Oscar for it. It is odd to criticize someone who has more acting success than any other actor in the industry while being loved and respected by most every actor or director who has worked with her,as evideinced by the audience make up during her AFI tribute. They all want to work with her again!

she did threaten to quit, but it wasn't because of her they didn't fire him. Everyone threatened to quit, like Robert DeNiro and Christopher Walken did too. and the director. She was great to him, she stayed by his side until he literally died and then she got evicted from their apartment days later and thats when she met Don because she stayed at his apartment while he was in Europe. Then he came home earlier than he was supposed to and here we are over 30 years later. But Al Pacino said he never saw such love like Meryl gave John Cazale all the way until the end. She was great to him and truly loved him

lol.moonchildiva obviously has NO idea what talent is. If Meryl was as bad as moonchild opines, I kinda doubt (ha haher new movie where she will probably win another award) she would have lasted as long as she has nor won as many accolades as she has.
Moonchild is certainly entitled to an opinion, but we all know it's an incorrect one, don;t we?
              wink wink, nod nod.

While I do agree with the last posters comment, I think it is important to remmeber that this is not about bashing other posters for their opinions, but is a tribute to a great actor and the last woman he loved. It puts, in my humble opinion, a taint on that by putting her downit is disrespectful of his memory and the love they sharedwhich is no ones business but theirs anyway.
So, all I have to say, is I have been a fan of his since my Mom showed me DOG DAY AFTERNOON as a kid. I've seen everything he has been in several times overas I have with Streep as well. The first thing I saw her in was JULIA. Luminous!
                May he rest in peace.

                  The truth is..
Dinero is the one that requested for John Cazale to be in the film..
But they did not want him because they thought he could die in the middle of filming..
So Dinero dropped a considerable amount of money as 'insurance' for Cazale to be in the movie.
That right there goes to show16d0 how amazing of an actor he was..
Think about how much money you would have to pay a production company to not care if a actor in there film died and they would have to re-cast and reshoot all those scenes..
It must have been a lot of money.
Dinero knew Cazale was the man the for the job.. When Dinero takes money out of his personal stash just for someone to be in a movie That shows how much he respected Cazales acting ability.
Its not just because Bob felt sorry for John and wanted him to be in there too..
Its because Dinero is extremely determined to make a film as great as it could be.. Or even greater.. And he wanted the best actors he could get around him..
                  And that was John

When Meryl Streep gave her Oscar acceptance speech, thanking friends here and gone (looking up), I was reminded that she was engaged to John Cazale at the time of his death in the late 70's. I feel that he was probably one of those she was remembering at that moment.

I had the same thought. I've never seen Meryl so emotional as herself. It was very touching.

Didn't she thank her friends, here and gone, who were "responsible for (my) career"? If so, then I would say that definitely includes John; he was the first to talk her up to his star pals like Al Pacino, and Meryl herself said John taught her everything she knows about acting. And she still throws out little references to John, without mentioning his name (it's still difficult for her to talk about him). That was a sweet moment last night.
Yeah, they're dead; they'reall messed up!
