I believe that, regardless of what happened, he's not coming back. On top of that, if he was murdered, his killer will never be brought to justice.
Personally, however, I think that either possibility is equally as probable. Kurt was definitely capable of having committed suicide, especially at a time in his life where things were so particularly unstable. At the same time, however, facts make murder look equally possible.

I honestly don't know, but I've read everything possible on it and I think it leans towards murder. I don't think he would have ever238 left Frances like his father "left" him. That's clear in his journals.

Suicide. The "evidence" for murder is nothing more than circumstantial. A few members in Kurt's family committed suicide, alcoholism was rampant in his family, Kurt suffered from depression and heroin addiction. Add those issues on top of life altering events (fame, marriage, fatherhood) happening within months of each other, I think it would take even the healthiest and most stable of people some time to adjust to everything. It was less than 3 years from Neverminds release to his death. That's not enough time to adjust to all of that in the best of circumstances.
If he was murdered it didn't happen the way Tom Grant says it did.

Are you implying that it was assisted suicide? Or just that he also happened to want to die.

Either way, it was suicide. There honestly was no motive to kill this guy, anybody who says otherwise is either mouthing off conjectures or just plain dumb. The guy shot himself, it was sad, yeah, but his life is over. Celebrate his music, not his death.

mmusicmann007, there actually WAS a rather big motive. If you've ever seen an interview with Courtney Love, or read some of her statements, it's clear that she puts money over everything. Literally over everything, and she's more than a bit unstable. Now, there is evidence that Kurt was going to divorce her, leaving her with nothing. There was a prenup.
It was also known at this time that she didn't really care for him anymore anyway. So, a person, who puts money over everything, and is about to have almost all of it taken away, or what's the alternative? What does she do? That's not a motive?
It's one of the oldest, most fundamental motives there is for having someone killed and by much more stable people than Courtney Love.

Lol Do you actually think that trainwreck/junkie/failed stripper/smut is capable of pulling off a hit without anything being tied back to her at all? Also, if that motive is so telling, then why didn't the investigators reassess the case based on that? Besides, if she really wanted the man dead, why not just let him lay overdosed in Rome? Why go t2000hrough the trouble of reviving him only to later pay somebody to have him killed?
It was suicide, plain and simple. Also, don't be influenced by that loon Tom Grant, there is a reason why he was knocked down to being a "P.I."

Yes, Courtney cares about money. But enough to murder her husband and father of her child? I highly doubt that. Her years of instability, especially since Kurt's death, could easily be attributed to her drug abuse. Prior to his death I'd say she was definitely
                          out there
but I wouldn't go as far to call her crazy.
Now, there is evidence that Kurt was going to divorce her, leaving her with nothing. There was a prenup.
Rosemary Carrol even said she wasn't sure how serious he was about wanting a divorce.
"Did he ever say that to me? Yes he did, but I don't know how serious he was. He loved her very much. He was besotted with her, but at the same time it was very difficult for him. . . The defining moment of Kurt's life was his parents' divorce, and he would have done anything to avoid that same situation rather than put Frances through it - and to the degree he thought divorce was inevitable, the pain of that was unbearable, unbearable."
Page 543 of Nirvana the Biography.
No papers were filed/signed or even typed up. While there's no doubt they were having issues it seems any discussion(s) of a divorce ends right at that phone call. At least as far as lawyers go.
Even if they were to divorce I doubt Kurt would leave Courtney completely penniless. He said that he would still strive for civility between himself and Courtney, for the sake of Frances, if they were to divorce.
If Kurt wanted his marriage to end why would he say Courtney is a "goddess of a wife who sweats empathy and ambition" in his suicide note? That specific part of the note isn't in dispute on who wrote it. It's clearly in Kurt's handwriting.
It was also known at this timeb68 that she didn't really care for him anymore anyway.
Really? I figured reviving him on the floor of a hotel room in Rome showed she cares. No doubt they had issues in the last few months of his life but I don't buy that she saw him as disposable or stopped caring for him completely.

I refuse to get into another suicide murder debate because it's ridiculous and this topic needs to friggin die already.
But what irks me is a few things. When people say there was "evidence he was divorcing her". There was actually NO evidence of this. No papers were filed, and not only that, they weren't even
                            separated
prior to his death. They were still living in the same damn house tog5b4ether. Usually when a couple gets divorced, it is after they have separated for a while. So there was absolutely no factual evidence they were divorcing. They were just struggling and fighting on and off because both were battling drug addictions.
Couples who fight a lot threaten divorce all the time. There was nothing indicating that they were actually going to do it. I personally believe the reason divorce was even threatened was because Kurt was mad that Courtney gave him an ultimatum that he needed to go to rehab or he wouldn't see Frances anymore. I'm sure that set him off which led him to out of anger, speak of divorcing her but again NOTHING was official. Not even close.
Second, I hate it when people make it seem like Courtney needed Kurt's money because she had none. Courtney was making money going on tour. Not only that but her album "Live Through This" was completed months before Kurt's death and it was an OBVIOUS hit album. Every song on there was perfection. So there was no doubt she'd make a fortune off of it which she did end up doing. So she didn't need to have Kurt's money. She was making her own.
