Do any of you actually NOT hate Courtney Love?

I seem to be one of the marginalized listeners who is a fan of both of them; I actually enjoy Hole more than Nirvana, but love them both, and I get A LOT of crap for it, especially over the internet and on forums and such.
For example, I had cancer last year and have literally had people tell me that they wished I had died from it because I defended Courtney Love on a forum that's how rabid some of his fans are. It's filthy, and I assume it all stems from the conspiracy theories that she had him killed, all of which people take at face value (if she actually wanted him dead she could have easily let his multiple overdoses take him, there was no need for an elaborate hit like these Nirvanagelicals claim there was).
It's outrageous to me how psychotic and sensitive his fans are to him, and how outright vile they are when it comes to his wife. I'm not saying Courtney is a model human being, but Hole is probably my all-time favorite band and I think she had an interesting viewpoint and sound, and is worth noting for having written some great songs. A great majority of his fans tend to disagree, and not just simply disagree, but disagree violently. It's kind of appalling how mad his fans are though when it comes to anything that has do with Courtney.
There's also the hullabaloo about him having written every single Hole song recorded since forever, which is absolutely ludicrous. The truth of the matter is that they equally influenced each other in different ways; you can tell by looking at both bands and how they changed ("In Utero" compared to Nirvana's previous releases, and "Live Through This" compared to Hole's). It's obvious that she influenced his lyrics, and that he influenced her instrumentation.
The guitars in Live Through This have a different style compared to Hole's previous recordings, and the lyrics in In Utero are much more elaborate than anything Kurt wrote on Nevermind or Bleach. They were inverses of each other; she was a better writer than he was, and he was a better guitarist than her. -

I don't hate her. I enjoy both bands but like Nirvana more overall. I think it's BS that she gets all of this hate from some Nirvana fans as well. She's demonized for things (like drugs) that gets justified or rationalized when it comes to Kurt. They're one in the same in a lot of ways. The evidence that's normally used to support the murder theory is flat out stupid to me. Hell, maybe he was murdered but it sure as hell didn't happen the way it's been said for nearly 20 years.
I definitely agree that they influenced each other. I'm glad you pointed out that In Utero was far more structured than anything written pre-Courtney. Just reading or watching their interviews makes it obvious that Courtney was more of a wordsmith than Kurt. -

I actually really like Courtney. I think a lot of the things said about her is put out of context and most Nirvana fans don't bother finding out the whole story. I think she's a brilliant musician. And to any Cobain fans who don't like her I recommend you watch the Channel 4 documentary that was made about her a few years ago (I think it's called The Return of Courtney Love, but I can't be sure) it completely changed my original opinion of her.

I like some songs by Hole, but really never got into them. And it has nothing do with the whole Cobain suicide thing, just they never really appealed to me. I could care less about how she fit in with Kurt's suicide but then again, I try not to read to much into the lives of musicians and celebrities, just kind of ruins the music and takes away the mystery of a song.

This sums up how I feel about a lot of those Nirvanamaniacs.
They've got to be some of the most delusional people I've ever seen. -

I know I replied to this soon after it was posted back in January but my feelings on her haven't changed. I feel sorry for her in some ways. She seems like a person who just cannot get their life in order. She's financially capable of going to a rehab that's experienced with long-term addicts (to be fair, I haven't been keeping up on whether or not she's still on drugs) and can get a therapist to finally work through her issues. She does neither, that I know of. She's comfortable in chaos, imo. There's also little sympathy for her in regards to Kurt's death. Someone either thinks she was behind it or they disregard the impact a spouse's suicide can have on a person. My best friend since the first grade killed himself back in 2009 and it was devastating. Even though I moved out of that state when I was 12 (back in 2001). We saw each other on occas1ebcion and talked regularly still. The circumstances of his death (double homicide & suicide) sure as hell contributed to the feeling of devastation though. She doesn't come off as cool and funny like Keith Richards or sad like Robert Downey Jr. People just look at her as a chaotic confrontational mess and never bother to look at the bigger picture.

I don't hate her at all. I've always felt a connection with her, from the moment I first saw her when Hole was playing the VMAs in 1998. I guess I'm one of the few fans to have loved Hole before Nirvana, but it's true. I delved into both their discographies at a relatively early age - perhaps too young to grasp a lot of the subtext - but nevertheless, I feel like Kurt and Courtney have "raised" me, so to speak. Every time I see her in interviews and she says she's clean, I pray she's telling the truth. I really do want the best for her. She's a beautiful person, a true poet with a voice that doesn't agree with everyone's ears, but atleast it's honest and undeniably her own.

I too am a fan of both Kurt and Nirvana and Courtney and Hole, but I like Hole more. I really relate to Courtney. Her anger, lyrics, etc. I respect Kurt, but I really resent how his association with Courtney has caused her to get such vile hate. Not to mention, overshadowing and discrediting as an artist.

I'm another person who's a fan of both, but I love Courtney/Hole moreKurt/Nirvana completely overshadows everything Courtney's ever done, and I say that as a fan of Nirvana. Nirvana's overrated as f~ck anyway. I like them, but really, the praise they get is ridiculous.
As for the conspiracies about Kurt's death, they're all idiotic. He killed himself. End of story. -

Live Through This is one of my favorite albums, and I also like Celebrity Skin. I'll listen to Nirvana when they come on the radio, but there's no denying their influence, they practically created a sub-genre.
