Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Kurt Cobain

    PrepaidVenerealDisease — 10 years ago(June 03, 2015 02:02 PM)

I was finally able to see it the other night. For me it didn't live up to the hype (what actually does?) though I wouldn't say I was disappointed either. I really enjoyed the animations of Kurt's artwork and audio recordings. Nothing new was actually said but it was nice seeing his family participate and hear their own stories. It was a little creepy that Eric Erlandson was standing in a bathroom recording them though. I didn't even realize it at first, just thought it was on a tripod.
Anyone else see it yet? What were your thoughts, expectations, ect?

Buzz Osborne and Alice Wheeler have both spoken out on Montage and said it's b.s. Alice implied that it was Courtney Love's propaganda on how she wants the world to view Kurt instead of who he actually was. They were getting a divorce but Courtney wants the world to think they were all in love. And his friends said he wasn't suicidal but Courtney would have you think he was trying to off himself everyday.

I've read what they've said about it but what does their opinion have to do with yours, if you even have one on it?

My opinions are the same. This is not Kurt Cobain. This is the version of Kurt Cobain that Courtney Love wants you to believe in.

This "Courtney propaganda" crap gets ridiculous sometimes. People were calling it that before a single frame was even produced. But, holy crap, the director had access to Kurt's belongings that are in Courtney's possession so it MUST be propaganda. Because anything that uses his actual words that weren't said in a studio needs Courtney's permission to be used. Never mind them being his own words or anything. Any movie about Kurt that doesn't mindlessly paint her as a succubus hellbent on destroying Kurt is called "propaganda".
There are multiple "versions" of Kurt just like there's multiple versions of everyone on the planet. People act differently according to the situation at hand and who they're around. Who Kurt was around Buzz Osborne or Alice Wheeler or Kurt Loder probably wasn't who Kurt was when he was in the privacy of his own home or alone. It's impossible to know another human being completely. It'd be asinine for me to pretend I know Kurt. There's no doubt that Kurt and Courtney was a very volatile and unhealthy couple. Two drug addicts with personal unresolved issues can't have a happy, healthy, and long lasting relationship. But it's stupid to pretend they didn't have any good times together even if they were probably few and far between.

You asked for my opinion and you got it. Sorry, but I'm not here to kiss your arse or agree with you.
I stand with Kurt's real friends, not some anonymous IMDb poster. Montage of Heck is pure trash designed to serve the needs of Courtney Love and to promote her lies and misrepresentation of Kurt Cobain for her personal, lega2000l, and financial benefit.

Lol, no need to "kiss my arse" or agree with me. I don't even disagree that Courtney wasn't the best person for Kurt. I simply don't think anything that doesn't paint her completely negatively is "propaganda". It could simply be argued that Montage of Heck is one side of Kurt or whoever Kurt was at the time these movies were shot. Things change in everything. People tend to not grab a camera in the middle of a fight to film it but want to film a child's birthday party. But no, him actively participating in home movies is propaganda. It's a false side of Kurt. Dude, get real.

Thought is was crap for the most part. Why is Tobi Vail always written out of the official Courtney Love-sanctioned versions of Kurt's life?

She was talked about in Heavier Than Heaven and that's widely considered to be Courtney sanctioned BS about his life. I can't remember what was said about her in the book though. Nor can I remember Vail ever talking about him that much. To be fair, I don't read about her in general so I could be wrong. I only know she was interviewed for Everett True's book on Nirvana. Tracy, on the other hand, has talked about him numerous times. Who knows. Good point though.
