There was a band a few years ago called
    Future Leader of the World
. They only released one album but the lead singer has the same raspy devilish tone that Kurt did

Check out Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, and Screaming Trees. Nirvana might have popularized Grunge, but they were FAR from being the best.

STP didn't really come out of the Seattle scene..I think Alice in Chains was the best to come out of the Seattle scene, but they don't really sound like Nirvana.
I suppose it'd be interesting to listen to some of Nirvana's inspirations and the bands they liked..Mudhoney, Dinasour Jr., Flipper, Black Flag, The Melvins and many more.
But they don't all necessarily sound like Nirvana and they're much more punk and less mainstream.

                      Dinosaur Jr's
                      You're Living All Over Me
                      and
                      Bug
, imho. In fact, it's been suggested that if YLAOM had had cleaner sounding production that it may have broken a few years before
                      Nevermind
                      did.
Any of the first 4 Wipers albums. In fact, I'd say that Wipers were much more of an infl7ecuence than the Pixies ever were. Same goes for Melvins and Mudhoney.

Not grunge or even English-speaking but still great Heroes del Silencio:
                          La Herida
                          ; La Chispa Adecuada
                          ; Maldito Duende
                          ; Con Nombre de Guerra
                          ; Avalancha
                          .

These are songs that, in my opinion, sound like Nirvana songs:
                            Veruca Salt- "Victrola"
Local H- "Freeze Dried (F)lies" (sounds like Nirvana meets Alice in Chains)
                            Silverchair- "Lie To Me"
Verbena- "My Baby Got Shot" (Nirvana + The Pixies + Silverchair's "Freak"= this song)
The White Stripes- "Hypnotize" (close your eyes at 0:49 and I dare you say that isn't Kurt Cobain playing)
Jack off Jill- "Vivica" (the guitar intro sounds so much like Nirvana, it's crazy! And then when Jessicka starts singing the song sounds like a female version of Bush's "Glycerine")
