Actually Cat Stevens' career is not dead. He voluntarily withdrew from the music scene for many years to concentrate on his religion and charity work, but has recently returned to singing (under his new name of Yusuf Islam) and released a new CD.

I read that she went away for a month and he felt like she was dead so that's why you have those lyrics.

I've heard the song "Lady D'Arbanville" many times, but never heard anything in it to lead me to think it was about someone who died. It's clearly about grow5b4ing estrangement and the death of a relationship. He even comments acidly on her "brave new life" foreshadowing the criticisms and warnings of "Wild World".

                      My Lady D'Arbanville,
                      You look so cold tonight,
                      Your lips feel like winter,
Your skin has turned to white,
Your skin has turned to white.
                      I love you my lady,
Though in your grave you lie,
                      I'll always be with you,
                      This rose will never die,
                      This rose will never die.
Seems pretty clear to me I have to sayhe's referring to her as if she is dead, albeit metaphorically.

I read somewhere that in addition to "Lady D'Arbanville", he also wrote "Maybe You're Right", "Wild World", and "Just Another Night" for/about her also. I always thought it would be great to have a musician ex-boyfriend who wrote a song about me, like "Rosanna" or "Judy Blue Eyes".
I bet Patti likes listening to these songs, even if they are all about breaking up!
I need my 1987 DG20 Casio electric guitar set to mandolin, yeah
