I've noticed that, when it comes to artists in popular music, none of them seem to be respected as actual artists. None of their work seems to be considered poetry. None of their work seems to be regarded as actual literature. Except for Bob Dylan. I always got the impression that Bob Dylan's work is the only thing in popular music that's considered actual poetry and regarded as literature. However, I looked around, and couldn't see him being mentioned in any "greatest artists of the 20th century," "greatest poets of the 20th century," or "greatest writers of the 20th century" lists. Are critics reluctant to call him one of the great artists of the 20th century and compare him to people like Warhol, Tolkien, etc.?

I agree. It depends on who you ask, but I think generally his work is considered poetic and that of literature.
Nobody
can quite pull off a song (especially lyrically) the way he can.

It seems that has been corrected.
