Not to worry, the beatnick crowd and Greewich Village cool-cats won't know the difference,as you muster up the intense James Dean look.
When I head him sing, I thought it was a joke.
An EXEMPLARY example of: "act as if".
Sing: the word has a meaning, and the meaning has a word.

That criticism could be fairly applied to some singers but definitely not Dylan who is a fantastic singer. Singing is about investing the lyrics with passion and meaning and few are better at it than Dylan(I'd seriously say his only equal as a vocalist is Frank Sinatra)
Dylan as a singer is every bit as good as Dylan the writer.

        Thanks for reply.
You see, I don't expect much, even David Cassidy suffices.
But when a person is not only portrayed as a singer, but some great icon, I have to question it. If Dylan can sing, then so can KC of the The Sunshine Band(he can't)
Writing and singing are 2 different things.

Thats your opinion though, the fact he's sold millions of albums worldwide and influenced countless artists points otherwise, music like comedy is subjective to a certain pointbut I do get tired of people saying he cant singwell he cant sing in the 'opera' or hold a note in a traditional sense but not many creative artists have over the years, if bob dylan didnt sing the way he did then he wouldnt be bob dylan now would he!!

'but I do get tired of people saying he cant singwell he cant sing in the 'opera' or hold a note in a traditional sense but not many creative artists'

You've heard other people say this? Then why is more credibility given to those who say he can vs. those who say he can't?
In other words,it's like the expession "The Emperor has no clothes"
If Cher has sold millions of records, that doesn't mean she is a good singer, but an adequate one. If Raquel Welch has sold millions of movie tickets, does that mean she can act? She can't
So, it boils down to what people 111cconsider singing.
I don't care about,or like opera, but does Dylan have a vibrato? Is a vibrato a compotent of singing?
This reminds of "one person tells another, then they tell 4 more people, then 8 people tell 16"and then everybody is agreeing.
'Creative" is very subjectiveand often abtract word, as is the word "inspired"
              as in:
Q "Which rock n roll band do you like the best?"
              A "How can you tell"?
