It is very sad to hear that Jack Elam has died at aged 84.He has died 2 months after great star Charles Bronson.I loved these tough characters and i think that the actors these days are not even in the same league in Westerns.

Jack Elam was a remarkable and memorable character in so many movies, many of them Westerns. It's interesting that you mention that Jack Elam and Charles Bronson passing so close together. I remember going to the local theater back in 1963 to see a movie called "Four For Texas", starring Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, which also co-starred Bronson and Elam. I had recently become a Jack Elam fan from watching the TV series, "The Dakotas". Later that year in the fall, he would co-star with Jeffrey Hunter in another TV western series called "Temple Houston". So I was very excited that Jack Elam would be up on "the big screen".
As the movie opens, a gang of outlaws (including Bronson and Elam) is chasing a stagecoach driven by Frank Sinatra. During the chase, the stagecoach makes a daring move, which surprises the outlaws (including Elam, whose shocked facial expression momentarily fills the motion picture screen)and allows the stagecoach to make an escape. When the outlaws regroup, Elam makes a remark that angers Charles Bronson, who promptly 'shoots him out of his saddle'! At this time, the opening credits begin to roll! By the time Jack Elam's name appears on the screen, he's already out of the picture!
Flash forward 5 years to the opening scene in "Once Upon A Time In The West", where Elam two others are waiting to kill 5b4Bronson at the train station. After an excruciatingly long time waiting, the train arrives and Bronson manages to kill Elam and his cohorts even as the opening credits rolled. The good news was that the opening scene did give Jack quite a bit of screen time before he had to exit!
I must admit that I have enjoyed both of those actors, who were certainly the best at what they did! And they created so many memorable characters that will live on in years to come through DVD and video. Jack Elam, thank you! -

Jeeezus i only find out about my fav actors dying on here NOT on tv So Jack Elam is dead and its only been almost a year since i find out lemme guess his death was prob a small blurb mentioned in the middle of harping some MTV crap
it REALLY chaps my ass when verteran actors DON'T get thier much derserved props nowadays.Jack Elam,you will be sorely missed sir god bless you and thank you for your great work in your many decades in film.
