He was bi, he contacted AIDS in 1988, apparently this detail sent his Daughter Jennifer into a downward spiral of Heroin addiction, she recovered but depression set in and she hung herself in the family home in Spain in 2003.

Just because it's in an article doesn't mean it's accurate. Most such articles are based off of a publicist's press release. That doesn't mean it's even remotely accurate. Maybe it was a transfusion, maybe it wasn't. Maybe my grandmother died in 1938 like the reports state, or maybe she was still alive well into the 1970s like my father states. I'm more inclined to believe the man's wife, personally.

I joined IMDb due to my love of many genres of film & of the exceptionally high quality of many series being seen in more recent years, especially from an impressive number of non English speaking countries, especially some of the brilliant offerings from Scandinavia, that I have heard nothing but good things a111cbout, from other lovers of these mediums, who know good quality & write excellent, intelligent reviews that I find so helpful, esp being able to access at any time on any day. I think I use IMDb app every day & it has been so valuable to have with me always, via my fone.
I opened the app earlier, to read up on this film which I had never seen. I was looking around this section for quite a long time, possibly showing a little blind faith that what I was reading would amount to just 1or2 of the embarrassing posts, thatI had to conclude were written by a vast majority of the users who had nothing to say even slightly intelligent, & made not a single comment that could ever enhance my mostly positive & enjoyable past uses of this site (near every day) & who it was quickly so clear to those of us who value what we can learn on IMDb, being second to none of any other apps or sources of info available to the many fans of these genres, who are mature & intelligent lovers of high calibre & well reviewed titles & greatly value what can be learned from fellow users who enjoy sharing their opinions & I have learned many facts about so many titles, by being open to consider a variety of diff views many fellow users may have, focusing on quality of any of the films or exceptional series they kindly submit reviews, opinions & little known info about whatever titles they feel passionate about, purely to help other lovers of film & the higher quality series made for TV, that were rarely seen until these more recent series that had started to crop up from many diff countries & cultures & surprise so
many of us with so many fresh ideas & quality concepts that many of us had not seen b4 to this exciting standard of excellence, so prolific all of a sudden that there was much anticipation of what was to come.
Anyway, I had to write this reply after reading all the posts above that were so disappointing to read & soon became the first overly negative experience I recalled having on IMDb.
I come here to learn about titles I am not overly familiar with, & to share some of my opinions & insight with other fans of these quality titles & fans of the best of these Series that were becoming regular offerings from a very talented bunch of ppl who's various skill sets were of such high standard, & so it was imperative they were able to help each other develop their craft & come up with many new ideas that would help them maintain the excellence they had already shown in bucketloads as they could need to get the movers & shakers in the industry to see how popular they had become in the shortest time. HopI have just signed up for ten play & ran into problems before even using to watch anything. I was wanting to watch Episode 1 of the killing as I was unaware it was on until I saw Ep. 2 on Ch.One last Monday (7th March) Firstly, there seems to be no catch up on your site for this series, despite it being one of the highest rating series on any network 10 stations, with most episodes scoring about 9 on IMDb which is quite rare.
Secondly, even tho you are not offering catch up episodes, the site provided me with info on series 4, even stating the next episode is on Monday 14th at 12.15am on Ch.ONE. All good TV guides show quite clearly this episode is called "NUMB" & dates it (2012) which is actually a repeat of Series 2, Ep.3. How can u provide such a potentially good site, but include info or content that clearly hasn't been researched well at all, let alone checked for accuracy.
Thirdly, I missed the series re OJ Simpson's first episode on the weekend & was going to watch that using your ten play website, so found it, but could not see what size the file is, whether it was in SD or HD, or any technical info at all. So I got out my laptop to access full site instead of using phone app. To my amazement, none of this was available there either. I looked at the FAQ section & really started to get annoyed when it was the most stupid collection of what you say are allegedly commonly asked questions. Like."how do I get a job at Ch.10?".. Seriously guys .So unprofessional & totally uninformative I was 111creally not enjoying my first experience with ten play at all.
FINALLY, WHY don't u (& most other network) keep advertising it is a free service. It is disingenuous to say this with no clear reference made to the fact that the data used is extremely high & just b/c it is using internet, ppl can be excused for not fully grasping that u shouldn't attempt to watch catch up without an unlimited data package. Foxtel has no data charge & few other countries do either hopefully. Is it not time Australia caught up with the rest of the developed w

I suspect there are some younger folks in this discussion who didn't live through those terrible plague years.
Despite the glam years, the disco era, and the wonderful freedom some people were finding to be publicly themselves back then, a celebrity - especially a male lead - simply didn't own up to anything but hetero relationships at the time. Hollywood was still largely a dark closet. Hell, Liberace had countless fans who just couldn't have believed he was anything but an exceptionally flamboyant straight guy.
That, and: no one - NO celebrity - publicly disclosed having AIDS if there was any possible way to avoid it. Rock Hudson was practically walking dead before he finally owned up to suffering something other than liver cancer. Freddie Mercury was just about on his last breath before he owned up.
And once the diagnosis was5b4 public? It was almost always "through a blood transfusion". Once in a while, that was even true - but rarely. Usually it was a desperate lie, a last-minute grab to shore up a fraying public image.
(I'm not judging anyone. It was a horrible, horrible time when you could wake up any day to hear yet another friend had vanished from the face of the earth. There one day, gone the next, into the dozens and then the hundreds and more. Those of us close to the storm all did the best we could. So: no judgment.)
But someone's cause of death in those years - and whether they were gay, straight, or danced between the two - isn't necessarily disclosed accurately in the public record. All we know is what people SAID was true. A publicist's press release reflects what s/he was paid to say. A spouse or friend's testimony may be the truth, or may be what they wanted to believe, or may be the tale they all agreed to tell.
Enough sources say that Elliot had both male and female lovers that, if I cared enough, I'd probably be inclined to believe it. But I don't mistake that for fact, and that's a direct result of living through the devastation. Who he loved, how he got AIDS - who knows. And frankly - what difference does it make?

Sounds right. It seems unlikely that someone would live into their 70's if they had gotten AIDS.

I'm not clear what you are saying here. He didn't have AIDS early in his life, he contracted it during the 1980s. AIDS was only identified as an epidemic in the early 1980s and gay men with many sexual partners, like Elliott, were at the highest risk of getting it. Effective drug treatments for HIV and AIDS weren't developed until the mid 1990s, which was too late for him.

I'm replying to the whole thread here.
Why do people get so upset over someone's sexual preference? Who gives a crap? Try highlighting their lives on something besides their sexual preference. It's bloody boring!
If someone has had any sex out of the ordinary, whether it be homosexual, or bisexual, or even no sexual, you can be sure as little green apples, that this one point, this one single aspect of their lives will be emphasised over and over and over again ad infinitum. It will overshadow any accomplishment or deed they may have done.
What are we, children? No, we're worse, because even children don't act like this.
This, and the coarsening of society, with porno and tatts and pierces everywhere you turn, makes me want to leave this so-called sophisticated modern world and become a hermit.
Wait a minute. I just came up with my new movie premise;)
One more transfusion, and I'll be a full-blooded Irishman.
