hi Steve
Your top four would be my top four, with Son of Paleface and The Ghost Breakers fighting it out for first place.
Gee, I wish I could disagree with you more.
Overall, for such a big star over such a long time and with so many movies and so much box-office success, and general multi-media popularity,
this list is not very impressive. Only the top four would I really recommend to a casual movie fan for a watch. None I would consider a first tier classic.
On billing, The Paleface poster is interesting in giving pride of place to Jane Russell. I think Hope was about the #1 guy at the box office at that point, and Jane had hardly been in movies. Ah, what Howard Hughes and tons of publicity, plus of course cheesecake photos, can do for a girl. -

Hi John, I 1354was surprised at the somewhat average ratings for most of Hope's films. I always used to think The Paleface was his best film, but Son of Paleface nearly always gets a higher score.
Ghost Breakers had good ratings at Rotten Tomatoes which just tipped the scales. There's less than a point separating the entire top 10 here, I don't think that's happened before.

Hi Steve
I think what elevated Son of Paleface was a better comic director, Frank Tashlin,
and the presence of Roy Rogers and Trigger. The best scene, and possibly Hope's best ever scene, is the one with Trigger and the blanket.
Rogers was always a good musician, and he got to do a lot of singing here. I guess for us young 'uns who remembered Roy's B's, it was nice to see him cap his movie career in a Technicolor A movie alongside Hope and Russell. -
