About the golf foursome, if I recall correctly it was then current President Bill Clinton, former President George H. Bush and former President Gerald Ford. I understand that he knew (and had a friendly relationship with) eleven Presidents, going back to FDR (and I assume that this included President Nixon). One thing about Bob Hope-he didn't let his personal politics get in the way of his public persona. He was friendly with all of them. He even has a video out, I think it's called "Laughing with the Presidents". It is listed in his filmography. From what I remember, it was very funny! He was the only person I know of who could kid Democrats and Republicans alike.
What is this world going to do without Hope? -

What is funnier than somebody trying to resurrect the political soul of Richard Milhouse Nixon who was responsible of tens of thousands of lives, who lied to congress and the American people, who set new standards in low political muckraking, and who left office in disgrace before he was quite rightly impeached? What is made more hilarious when someone claims that Bill Clinton, whose worst sin appears to be an element of adultery - thus joining a brotherhood of at least 65% of other U.A, middle-aged males - is actually a lower life than the same RMN?
See above.
What is sadder than the death of someone with the stature 16d0of Bob Hope?
Ditto. -

John, as much as I despised Nixon, Lyndon Johnson was the real piece of work for the twentieth century. A serial killer in the White House. And I am NOT talking about Vietnam. Read Blood, Money & Power, by Barr McClellan, a lawyer for LBJ who decided that murder is not protected under the attorney/client privilege. Hence, the book on Johnsons rise to power that makes Stalin look like Shirley Temple, culminating in the assassination of Kennedy. The murder of Kennedy changed EVERYTHING in America.

The Library of Congress site doesn't have anything on his USO Shows beyond 1969, and the official website has only sparse references to his 1983 show in Lebanon, and his 1987 & 1990 shows in the Persian Gulf.

If you are older than 12 and don't know who Bob Hope is then you must have been living in a bunker for the past 12 to 60 years. No, he hasn't been in anything for the last decade but that is no excuse for this level of ignorance. I hope this is a joke. If not, I guess someone needs to catch up on their history. Bob Hope, for God's sake.

Hello siriusnorm,
just my opinion but it may not be hate that is coming from some people but rather an intense love and appreciation for Bob Hope that people have and they feel compelled to respond strongly to your question.
I personally liked Bob Hope alot and I sure miss him.
I'm glad you know who he was.
Take care, -Captain Video -

Desert Storm 1991, USO, sharp as he ever was. He then invited all the Vets to his home in California in 1992, 93.
Every service man from WWII on owes him a debt of gratitude. Just because he hasn't been in any super blockbuster in the last 10 years doesn't mean we've forgotten him!!! Nor has any of the comedians alive today!! -

I've been with IMDB about the same time as you, c. 1999. 111cThis post is Really late, but I was trolling thru my submissions and came across this post. You mentioned Desert Storm, but I actually saw Bob on USO in Viet Nam, in 1969. He was always one of my favorite actors/comedians.

Thank you. Although their reaction is a bit understandable. Bob Hope had been such an entrenched part of American culture for the better part of this century that it's rather hard to believe that the WHOLE WORLD hadn't heard of him. It's kind of like not knowing about John Wayne or Superman.
Still, he was such an American phenomenon that I'm sure there are many parts of the world that is not familiar with him.
Still, that does not excuse rudeness. I apologize for that. -

Maybe you should read the thread in nest form Archer. The only one whose being rude is the troll who started the topic. Calling everyone losers (on the basis of one semi-rude poster) and brainless cause they responded to his pointless post is a little bit rich! Considering the majority of responses were very civil, and not hateful.

Their are a few people who don't know he Bob hope is, but they are either living under a rock or just don't know good comedy when they see it. Hell I was born in the 80's and I have seen just about every movie he was in. To any one who hasen't seen one of his films watch turner classic movies, they are doing something in his honor.
I miss TCM.
