According to MY HUSBAND ROCK HUDSON, Phyllis Gates was not only VERY straight but was devastated by the whole outcome of her marriage.
The book claims she returned to school and had this affair with this young guy. -

I saw Phyllis Gates on The Larry King show many years ago and she indicated she had truly been in love with Rock Hudson.When she found out that he was a homosexual,she divorced him without causing any trouble and she indicated that,"Once you have been with the best looking man in Hollywood,where do you go from there".

I just wish to add that Gay or otherwise, Rock Hudson was a very handsome man and good actor!.
I have just watched the 1957 "Farewell to Arms" with Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones, I found it to be a very moving film and had to wipe away the tears at the end..I was surprised to read that this film flopped? that really did surprise me -

I don't have a problem with people who are homosexuals, but the idea that a man would marry a woman knowing somehow or being doubtful of his sexuality preference really angers me. I think it is selfish to deceive your partner in that way. This happened to a close friend of mine and she had 3 children and was married for 17 years with a man who was discreetly having sexual relations with men throughout their whole marriage. She was devastated and took years of therapy to pick herself up and start over with her life. This goes vice versa with women who do that to men as well. I think the least the person should do is be honest from the getgo and share your true sexual desires with your partner, they may be ok with it as long as you are able to maintain a monogamous relationship. There are many women/men that are married with bisexual tendencies yet don't succumb to it because they don't feel comfortable with being unfaithful.
