Rock Hudson was a great big boxoffice star at Universal, the King of that Lot, for over 20 years. Magnificent Obsession, All That Heaven Allows, The Last Sunset, Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back, Man's Favorite Sport, Tobruk, etc, etc.
Diverse films such as War, Comedy, Westerns, etc.

Look at Hudson's box office popularity. No other heartthrob at that time was as popular as he was.
