I remember when the news broke that Rock Hudson had AIDS and was gay. I may have heard about his being gay before this, having grown up around Hollywood,
But I just came across a semi-montage of Larry King shows, most of which was with his former wife of 3 years, and some with others who knew him intimately.
I was surprised to learn that he was actually bisexual. All of these years, I assumed he was gay. Apparently, in reality, his sexual life with his wife was passionate enough, for the first few years, and he'd had numerous affairs with other women earlier and, I assume, after their marriage, although it appeared later in his life he preferred men. It really doesn't matter either way, but I couldn't help but wonder if he was portrayed as gay, rather than bisexual, because it made bigger headlines at the time, or if someone were bisexual at that time, it translated automatically to gay. Even more so if one had AIDS.
Larry King said several people had come on the show and said Rock had told them he'd only loved two people in his life, one being his ex wife. I can believe that. She seems like a lovely, albeit naive and perhaps not terribly bright, person, probably someone easy to trust.
The second person he truly loved wasn't mentioned. I assume it was a man, but that's my assumption. Does anyone here know who his other love was? -

The man Hudson loved was Lee Garlington:
Lee Garlington talks about his relationship with Rock Hudson.

Hudson was homosexual by most accounts. He was engaged to Vera-Ellen and had an affair with Marilyn Maxwell, but you never hear of many of these. Hudson's wife was contradictory on some issues and her accuracy has been called into question. -

Excuse the late replyTo answer your question I don't think he was bisexual in the sense that he was sexually attracted to women. I think he did what the times demanded, meaning I think maybe when he was young he tried to be straight and then later realized it was impossible. But that's just my opinion since I didn't know the man.
I also think that he only loved Phyllis Gates like a sister, but in those interviews what else could he have said? And I KNOW she never loved him-she just loved being Mrs. Rock Hudson. She was in fact a lesbian and I know this because she was my great aunt's lover off and on for many years.
No offense intendedI've an opinion like everyone else
