This is addressed to anyone out there who might be able to help me.
Many years ago in l958 or l959 (I can't remember which year, exactly), I was a very young enlisted man in the U.S. Army participating in field maneuvers in Germany. Several of us in my outfit were "loaned" out to an American television production company on location near where we were encamped. Our jobs were to serve as extras during the shooting of a U.S. television show called "Citizen Soldier." At least that's what I remember the name to be. For this one particular segment in which we were participatingit was entitled "Big Slim"Jim Hutton was the lead actor. He was roughly four years older than me and I had never heard of him before. All I knew was that he was some kind of actor. During the course of the two-day shoot, I was personally involved in a number of scenes. One moment, I wore a German soldier's uniform and charged down a hill. In the following scene, I changed into a GI's outfit and actually ended up alongside Jim, actually shooting at myself. In another scene, I was an M.P. directing traffic at an intersection. But the scene I remember best is the one in which I was a wounded, unconscious GI laying on a table in an old burned out church. The lead character, Jim, aka "Big Slim", came rushing into the burning building and heroically swooped me off an operating table, thus saving my life. It took several takes before we got it right. On take one, Jim's job was to avoid falling timbers, fight through the smoke and get me out the door. Unfortunately, he cracked my "unconcious" head on the door frame and I cursed out loud. "Cut," shouted the director. And we set it all up again. The second time, he dropped me when stepping over a timber. Jim apologized profusely and during the next hour or so, I got to know him somewhat and liked him. We had a lot of laughs through it all.
I remained in the Army for another year and never saw the TV show. Indeed, I'm not sure the series ever aired. If it did, I'd sure like to have a copy of that segment in particular. Is anyone aware of it? Can anyone direct me to an agency that might know of the series' fate? Can anyone provide me Tim Hutton's mailing address. Although Tim didn't come around until much later, it's possible he might have access to his father's archives.
Much obliged. M. Wallace in Vegas

      Dear Mr. Wallace,
I am researching Jim Hutton to write a biography. Information is limited. I would like to contact you via U.S. Postal mail to get your permission to refeb68r to you and use your anecdotes in the pieceAt this time I am still evaluating whether I will have enough to write a book or just an article.

THIS IS TO "walmika" RE YOUR INQUIRY
I think I found what you're looking for! I've posted it to your "Private Messages" area but then it occurred to me that you might not be aware of this feature, so here's what I said:
        Hi Mr. Wallace,
I think I may have found the TV show you were talking about in your comment. I think it was called "The Big Attack" and starred Sergeant 'Big Slim' played by Jim Hutton (then known as Dana Hutton). It describes his heroism on Omaha Beach against the Germans. It looks like a copy is available from a-1 Video for $19.95 plus S+H. It is # A-00-MC63. I don't think I can attach a link to the website because this is being forwarded by IMDB but the address is :
www.a-1video.com/Documentary.htm , and5b4 it's about 3/4 down the page. Or you can email me at trichs@hotmail.com and I can send you the link.
        Hope this helps,
        Tom

I saw "Walk, Don't Run" for the third time last night with Jim Hutton and I can't believe that not many people remember him well. Now I have a crush on him. . . .

I actually remember Jim Hutton, from watching "The Green Berets" on video at age 9 or 10 together with my father. I seem to remember him from suffering a somewhat brutal demisesome spiky reck as I recall!?
For some reason (perhaps the graphic death in TGB :-)), he's managed to stay in my memory for all this time, even his name has stuck with me since. So, just today "Hellfighters" was on Danish television, and I just wanted to slap myself across the face for not making the connection before in my movie buff life - It's obvious that he and Timothy is related.
Of course, I turned to IMDb and behold - It seems I was the last person in the universe to realize this.

I've seen him in two movies: "The Green Berets" and "Major Dundee", where he played fairly similar characters. Particularly like him in the latter, where his character evolved from an inept greenhorn to a competent officer over the course of the film.

hi, i'm a great jim's fan since i discovered the "ellery queen" series on my local tv 18 years ago. one of my favourite movies is "never is too late" although i agree that paula prentiss was his perfect partner. i'm trying to get -through ebay- some of that first movies but it's really difficult.
yesterday i was rewatching "the sky trap" (a tv movie for disney) where he plays the bad guy and it's very difficult to me to believe it, he seemed such a nice person!

                    Walk Don't Run
, played against Cary Grant and Sammantha Eggar, is Jim Hutton's classic film in my book. That he is able to stand up against Cary Grant as well as he does is a testament to Hutton's acting skill and personal charm. I wish his family would post photos of him on this IMDb site.

I adored Jim Hutton and remember how shocked I was when I heard of his death.
I found him very like James Stewart in his acting, and had a huge crush on him.
So sad that he died so young.
BBC2 in the UK are currenly showing "Ellery Queen" on Sunday mornings.
                      Bev.

God, was he cute. and not too tall for me, a 5'10" giantess; i do not like what happened to him at the end of "the green berets," an asinine movie i watched only to confirm its lousy reputation. i certainly don't blame jim hutton for its lousi5b4ness, or even for being in the damn thing; hey, an actor has to work, right? but he still makes my heart thump. his baby face and gangly body and oh that turned-up nose! why did he have to die so young and in such a painful way? perhaps we'll meet in the great beyond

Allegedly, per two old newspaper clippings somewhere around 62 or 64, he had a problem drinking after his first divorce. If he any problem, it didn't seem to affect his acting. He was great in Ellery Queen. I know a lady who never drank alcohol because of her beliefs, and she died of liver cancer, so drinking may have absolutely nothing to do with it.
