Not only thatbut Capshaw spent several years and put tireless and ongoing effort into trying to finally seduce him away from his then-family. She would send him letters, show up to places where she knew he would be, etc.
I can't believe he gave into that kind of desperate nonsense. -

She didn't give up anything for him. She never stopped acting. That's a crock of beep Her career wasn't exactly spectacular before they married, was it?
At the time, it wasn't pocket change to him. It was a big percentage of his worth. And she got a piece of his royalties from his movies to that point. -

UmmAmy Irving ended that marriage. Spielberg's high profile life was too much for her. They had dated & broken up once in the late 70s. It was Spielberg who pursued Amy in tda0he early 80s. I was working in India at the time, and I still remember Spielberg visiting her in India on the "The Far Pavilions" locations. It was big news there. I think he was on a recce in India for "Temple of Doom". Kate Capshaw got into a relationship with Spielberg well after the marriage ended. I'm from that generation and remember the course of events as covered by the media back then. I've also read interviews with Amy where she was quite open about how she wanted a simpler life than Speilberg, who was at the peak of his celebrity at the time.
I agree $100 mill is peanuts for that man. -

There's been a lot of back and forth going on between Irving and Capshaw from the early 80's
Spielberg changed 'teams' halfway the TOD shoot, and the other way around during Last crusade.
round 1
Spielberg/Irving were
not
a couple when shooting of temple of doom began
he got together with caphaw on the Doom set
Met irving halfway the shoot, broke things of with capshaw
married irving
round 2
'89 Spielberg left irving for capshaw - though the marriage was over long before that.
I know someone who's witnessed it all - and the aftermath - from close by.
(funny how it's all tied up with two out of three Indi5b4ana jones films LoL)
Me? I'm the eternal optimist. The glass is always half full on this end -

Irving and Spielberg were going out from 1976 to around 1980. (She was originally going to play Marion in the first Indiana Jones but the two broke up before filming began) They didn't get back together until after Yentl in 1984. Capshaw and Spielberg had a relationship or "fling" in 1983. Capshaw was still seeing Spielberg while he was with Irving, although Capshaw was trying to start a relationship with another $$$ director Brian DePalma. Funnily enough DePalma was the man Irving was chasing after while filming Carrie but DePalma liked Nancy Allen and they got married.
It seems young actresses run after the directors for a) work and b) financial protection, as well as a relationship. Look at Irving's mother herself Priscilla Pointer, she married her stage director WAY back -

You're apparently unaware of how life and marriage in most states works offhand, I'd say you're quite a fool. When a marriage ends, without extenuating circumstances, all assets are split down the middle that's the starting point. I'd suggest you save your smartass comments and opinions for something you actually know a little about. Without that prenup, she'd have gotten one hell of a lot more.

Why should Amy be labelled a "gold digger?" In California (and most states), there is such a thing as community property. What is his is her's and what is her's is his. From the time of their marriage, Spielberg earned money which, acording to law, belonged to both. Amy also earned money. He just gave her what was her's.
The real gold digger was Cate Capshaw snd Speilberg was a cheater, liar and adulterer. Capshaw's career went nowhere after she married Spielberg. Now she's a frumpy housewife with waddling upper arms. Ther is justice in this world after all. -

Obviously I do not know Steven Speilberg or Kate Capshaw (though I envy those in this thread who do); I certainly have great respect for Steven's work. As someone stated up above this all happened 20 years ago. I'm sure that whatever forgiving needed to happen happened. And while I would certainly love for Steven Speilberg to serve as both a personal and professional role model, no one is perfect, and no one can be expected to be perfect. Certainly I hope to avoid that situation myself, as do all of you I'm sure. But let us not judge too harshly that which we were not apart of. Let's leave that to God.

Yeesh, let it goHow many years ago did they get divorced?
Besides, I really feel sorry for Mr. Spielbergit looks like he really suffered.
Like others have said, it was only pocket change for him. AND he did break her heart and they had a child together. -
