I agree, and I have this nagging feeling that it may be a total flop.
While I can't imagine Mel Brooks making a flop, as you said, too much time has passed.

His balls have gotta be scrapping the floor at this point. True story , Mel's lovely wife Anne Bancroft who was really Anna Italiano used to be at my Great Aunt Mildred or Milly as we called her's house all the time.
My Mom knew Anne for many years. I asked my Mom were her Legs great even when she was 19, My Mom said yep.
My Great Uncle Frank helped Anne move into her first Apt.

I adored Anne Bancroft, and to be honest, I never understood that pairing lol
They seemed so incredibly different, but maybe that was part of the glue that held them together.
