they turned a menacing looking villain character into a complete JOKE.
I am a big Ben Kingley fan and was happy to see he got a role in a big movie like Iron Man 3. The introduction of him in the movie to the way he talks I was excited to see a great villain unfold in a super hero movie.
Then the twist happened. What a beep joke. Sir Ben Kingsley deserves better

I'm sure Kingsley relished the acting challenge they gave him, as he had to capture the villainous side of the character for all those videos of the 'mandarin', and then he got to play it for laughs when the twist is revealed.

I saw the movie months ago and have pretty much forgotten everything about it I was bored through almost the whole film. Such a disappointment after riot that was The Avengers.
But Ben Kingsley was superb and his performance is the only aspect of the movie that's stayed with me. Menacing and evil at the beginning then hilariously self-indulgent and weak by the end. When he evolved into the Trevor Slattery character it was the only time I sat up and really paid attention.
He nailed it in Sexy Beast and again in Iron Man 3. -

I enjoyed Iron Man 3, and it continued in the vein of the other filmsI didn't expect it to be an Avengers 2 funny style, but I have to agree, The Mandarin was the most interesting par111ct of the film. He scared me as the terrorist, he really was frightening, and then to see him as a hilariously inept actor was FANTASTIC. It was the most realistic, relatable thing in the series. So great!
And if they turn him into a real hero or anti-hero, so be it. Could be good stuff.

I would disagree while it certainly isn't what people are expecting, I was a bit disappointed too. However, it is certainly a very interesting path to take and it is far better than if they actually make a villain and seriously falling short due to horrible attempt to modernize a 60s villain characteristic (which has happen before).
But Kingsley is definitely a wonderful chose even if they did made an actual villain out of him.
