If you liked her as the wacko mother in CARRIE, you should check her out in RUBY. It's a pretty cool movie, kind of like THE EXORCIST. Laurie is excellent and, yes, very beautiful as well. If you're going to buy the movie, get the dvdLaurie and director Curtis Harrington do the audio commentary and it's fun listening to them reflect on their experiences making the film.

The film is often labeled an EXORCIST rip-off, which is unfair and unfortunate there is a young girl who's possessed (but not by a demon) though that's only a small fraction of the film. Laurie had just come off of CARRIE, and she gives a similarly over the top performance as the title character who has very little in common with CARRIE's Margaret White. If you're a fan of Laurie, it's well worth seeking out a copy. But make sure it's the DVD, apparently the butchered, alternate TV print of RUBY somehow made it to VHS.

I LOVE "Ruby"! Piper really chews the scenery in that. It's not really an "Exorcist" ripoff, though the final film wasn't what director Curtis Harrington intended. Anyway, it's definitely worthwhile, and Piper is excellent in it.

if you're a piper laurie fan,you should see it.she's great, and i'm tempted to say that it's one of her best performances.but the rest of the movie is C-R-A-P.incredibly amateurish and cliched.i can't emphasize that enough.

It is, in many respects, a "bad" film, though horribly entertaining. The studio chopped up Curtis Harrington's original film, tacked on a different ending with a different actress, and the original film is lost forever. I agree it may well be one of Piper's best performances, but I haven't seen a lot of her early films.
