Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Myrna Loy

    HowToCarrieOn — 18 years ago(June 27, 2007 07:50 AM)

First of all I want to tell that I simply love Myrna, she had great talent and beauty, a class, something you can't buy. I know she was a wonderful person and I don't know anybody who knew her in person and didn't like her. I know she worked for UNESCO, as one of the first famous people to take part in such an organisation. I know that she had no children. But has she ever been pregnant? Maybe she has had a miscarriage? I hope she didn't have any abortion Well, if you know something about it, please tell.

Well, I'm against abortion, but I'm not the one to judge anyody. I know that Myrna was a wonderful human being and she must have had her reasons. Thank you for the information.

She regretted it later. Like many actresses of her day, her contract with the studio left no time for children. She would makda0e wise cracks about it, but she admitted that she was a bit embarrassed that she was called "The Perfect Wife" but yet was divorced four times and had no children. I wish she had, it would nice if there were Myrna descendants still walking around somewhere.
Many actresses of that day adopted, or had no children at all. There are not many who actually gave birth. The studios put so much pressure on them to be in film after film, plus of course they couldn't be pregnant if they were unmarried, so many aborted to save their careers. Bette Davis, Hedy Lamarr, Loretta Young, Lana Turner, Rosalind Russell and Rita Hayworth are some of the few that gave birth.
"Just head for that big star straight on. The highway's under it. It'll take us right home."

            Yes, I know it.
And, I know that Bette Davis had at least three abortions. I know she really regretted the first one.
Also I read that Rita aborted Howard Hughes' baby. But it is written in Charles Higham's book and I consider this author not a reliable person.

When Rita was on vacation & met Aly Khan she was supposed to have been recovering from an abortion (w/Victor Mature's child). The only one I can't remember hearing about having one was Grace Kelly.

Rita Hayworth's baby was supposedly Glenn Ford's. Peter Ford writes about it in his biography on his father.
If Myrna Loy regretted in later life, than that was her feeling. In this day and age where women are [AGAIN] being told what to do with their bodies, we have to stop asking WHY they would have an abortion. It's not our business.
