Yes, she was a true superstar. One of the greatest Hollywood stars never to have been nominated for an Oscar - only Edward G. Robinson matches her on that score, in my opinion. Great actress.

Loy was also popular in England although box office rankings there are incomplete. Here is her ranking that I know:
