I don't know so much about Doris Day, however I think Myrna Loy was one of the best comedic actresses of the 30s and 40s.

I don't think she's underrated exactly, but unfortunately, like so many other GREAT actors & actresses from Hollywood's Golden Era she is largely forgotten by today's public. She is far & away one of my favourite actresses. I have never seen her give a bad performance (how many performers can you say that about?), even in a film like "The Mask of Fu Manchu" where she is playing Boris Karloff's nymphomaniac daughter (she's positively wild in is - check it out if you can)!

Oh yes, Myrna Loy is definitely one of the most underappreciated actresses ever! I hear plenty who like her. She is rated very well with them and me too. But you cannot say enough good things about this great actress, who does fantastically in comedies, dramas, everything she's ever in!

              Oh, I just love her!
She was and still is underrated. She didn't get the credit she deserved. I felt like her co-stars, Spencer Tracy and of course William Powell and Clark Gable got the most attention from their movies. She is class-act.
At a young age I am wrapped in her pefromances. I don't want to put my age because of future posts but I'am young; although, not a child.

One of the most adorable people EVER. Love every 'Thin Man' movie and the 'Cheaper by the Dozen' types she later starred in. A GREAT persona who we will never (unfortunately) see from again.

The only reason her male co-stars dominated her movies was because she wanted it that way. She stated so in her autobiography. It's a pity, since she was a marvelous actress, but I guess she liked being the understated, supportive actress.

Myrna Loy, Gene Tierney, Jean Arthur, Ann Sheridan, and Jean Simmons are among the most underrated actresses imo. All beautiful, all led interesting lives, all not talked about enough when if comes to lists and AFI and best-of-all-time commentary.
I'll never understand it. They all gave amazing performances at one time or another. They all made memorable films. They all had range. They were all beauties. They all co-starred with big name actors who are on those lists. shrug

I think Myrna might be underrated now because unlike Bette Davis there was no such thing as "a Myrna Loy" film.
But she was one of the best and one of the most natural of screen actresses.

I completely agree with that comment that she is understated and naturalistic. She was always very likable in her performances. She could never win a competitive Oscar because she was never given the juiciest parts, but she was in so many hits, especially comedies, and was always funny.

Myrna was an amazing actress. Totally natural and never flamboyant or actressy. I was never fortunate enough to see her on stage but she was just made for film and the reason is she was so under-rated is because she made it look so easy.

I, too, believe she is quite underrated. I love all her movies, at least the ones I've had the pleasure of seeing. I, especailly, liked her performance in Animal Kingdom. Never knew she could play such a convincing unlikable character. I had seen Connecticut Yankee, but that was more of a comedy, overall, so even though I've read negative remarks regarding her performance there, I thought she was still good, but that 'bad' persona wasn't the same as the 'bad' persona in Animal Kingdom. At first, you thought she was so sweet, then she changed. Great performance.

I think that Myrna Loy is one of the most underrated actresses. It is sad that she didn't win any academy awards. I think that she should have won at least two academy awards for The Thin Man and Libeled Lady. It is sad that she isn't as remembered today as other actors actresses. She was a good actress. I think that she was in a lot of good movies.

Myrna was great, there's no denying it. She ruled at the box office during her time but she's been pretty much forgotten today.
It's a shame because she honestly did deserve better than she got but in a way it seems to fit with who she was. She never made a spectacle of herself. She never came off as being full of herself. In a sense, she was the only good girl in all of Hollywood and that's how I like to remember her.
Well, that and the interplay she used to have with William Powell on screen.
