I have often wondered if Jerry Orbach was related to the family that owned
Orbach's Department Store in New York.
    Does anyone know?

Doubtful. According to Wikipedia (hardly a reputable source, but Orbach was so loved that fans have probably kept his entry more or less accurate):
Orbach was born on October 20, 1935, in the Bronx, the only child of Emily (ne Olexy), a greeting card manufacturer and radio singer, and Leon Orbach, a restaurant manager and vaudeville performer.[7] His father was a Sephardic Jewish immigrant from Hamburg, Germany.[8][9] His mother, a native of Pennsylvania, was a Roman Catholic of Polish-Lithuanian descent, and Orbach was raised in her faith (a religious background later replicated in his character on Law & Order).[10][11][12] Throughout his childhood, the Orbach family moved frequently
