This a long way from Jerry Orbach, but at any rate, dinosaurs were wiped out in the aftermath of a rock a few miles across smashing into the earth, not by gradual extinction. Happens about once every million years, since you ask. It'll be quite a show ne2000xt time. My advice'd be to get under it, because it'd be better to be one of the billion or so people who'll die right off the bat than to be left among those scrounging in the dark. The dust that rose into the atmosphere after the impact that killed the dinosaurs probably blotted out the sun for about two years, so it'll be chilly and there won't be a whole lot to eat. I'm thinking the survivors will start killing each other in fairly short order.
On the plus side, you probably won't have any warning. If we had a year or more to prepare, there's a slight chance we could do something about it, but not much. Problem is, the thing'll probably be too small to pick up with more than a few days notice, so I'm thinking the government probably won't be telling anybody about it. It'll knock out all communications systems on entering the atmosphere, so don't bother turning on CNN to find out what's happening. The brightest flash of light you've ever seen is probably the only kind of warning you'll get. The initial shock wave will probably move at about twice the speed of sound, so you won't hear it coming. Probably better that way.
There were two big rocks that came within a hundred thousand miles of the Earth last year (that's being-shot-at-and-missed-but-the-bullet-put-a-hole-in-your-hat kind of close ) and we didn't even know about them until they had passed. Oops!
Kinda makes you wonder why you'd spend any time on the internet whinging about dead celebrities, but whatever.

It sucked for me because like I said my grandfather died.He was nobody famous(well maybe with the local women he was).thats why 2004 sucked. My grandfahter looked a lot like James Garner and Jerry Orbach. He served in WW2 came home fathered 4 kids and worked at the local foundry until he retired.

Thank you for saying that. The reason that they're talked about and it's in the news is because everyone knows who they are. I'm sorry I don't know Jon Smith from somewhere in Texas and it wouldn't affect me if he died. Every death of a celebrity hasn't really made me sad this year, but Jerry Orbach. The first movie I remember seeing is Dirty Dancing, Beauty and the Beast was my favorite Disney movib68e and I've seen every episode of Law & Order there is. I was so sad the day he left, but then saw he'd be on the new one. So it's not that I feel like I know him, but I know the characters he plays. He was an amazing actor. Don't attack his fans for truly caring. I know I'll get crap for this, but it's like this when any person who is present in your life gets taken away - things just won't be the same.

Yes it has! 2004 sucked really bad!! My Aunt died this year, and all the people Aquaholic said, plus other things have happened. I hated 2004! Hopefully 2005 will be a lot better. Rest in peace Jerry, and all the people who died this year. I loved Jerry in Law and Order, and Dirty Dancing. That's how I always remembered him. But I know he is in a better place. God bless his soul and his family.

Every time a 42-year-old obese singer dies, a new star appears in the heavens. What 42-year-old obese singer are we talking about?

Never thought I'd get this many replies but keep 'em coming if you've suffered a loss last year.If my cat or dog died I'd be sad too.

my great-grandmother also passed away in march, a month shy of her 101st birthdayand my father was diagnosed with cancerbut yes this has been a sad year of losses for the movie industry, not only including legends like Rodney Dangerfi1354eld, Marlon Brando, and Janet Leigh, but also Fay Wray and the 2nd coolest composer ever (2nd only to Danny Elfman) Jerry Goldsmiththey will all be very very missed by both their families and their fans

while we're on the subject of ppl who died in 2004 i should mention john peel now his death may not have a big impact in america but over here in the UK it affected the people the way john lennon's death did.
And I thought Jerry Orbach was great as well.

I still cannot watch the show and it's been months since he passed away. I find myself choking up at the reruns on TNT.
