I want to respond that I also MISS Jerry Orbach tremendously! He was a wonderful actor, and an exceptional man. If I could choose a man to be my father, I would choose him. I remember hearing that he passed away (the day afte2000r his death), and tears began to flow. I always thought so highly of him, and appreciated his acting, and his sense of humor. I grieve for his wife and children. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him, and I faithfully watch Law & Order reruns. It's been one of my favorite shows since it began in the early 90's. How I wish that I could have met Mr. Orbach! I know this sounds funny, but I'll share it anyway: sometimes I have dreams where I've been able to meet him on the set of L&O, or where he was working a homicide case and I had the opportunity to watch the investigation in person! Silly, I suppose, but somehow those dreams made me feel closer to himin spirit, I imagine! Rest In Peace, and God Bless his family, friends,co-workers, and him.

No, I think this is a very sweet thing you wrote about Mr. Orbach. Sadly, his wife has now also died. But Jerry Orbach has many fans still, as you may tell from reading the posts on this message board and on You Tube.
It is an irony the first song for which Mr. Orbach was well-known for having sung was titled "Try To Remember" (from the long-running musical "The Fantastiks"), because very few who have ever seen and heard him act and/or sing in any film, play, or television show will ever have to "try" very hard to "remember" Jerry Orbach. His warm smile, resonant voice, and endearing personality are qualities one never forgets. -

Yeah, I wish he was still alive and acting today. I really do miss Jerry. He died too soon. But for a number of years he was one of the coolest guys on TV and definately one of the toughest. He will never be forgotten and will live on in reruns.

I just finished watching a PBS special on great Broadway performances and got rather teary eyed after watching Mr. Orbach perform "Lullaby of Broadway". He had an amazing career and I look forward to discovering more of it as I get older. For my generation, I remember seeing him first in "Dirty Dancing" and then being blown away by his performance as Lumiere in "Beauty and the Beast". I had no idea until tonight that he originated the lead role in "Chicago"! I will always remember what he told his wife before his passing that he was the luckiest guy in showbiz for always having a job. In my opinion, we are the lucky ones for getting to enjoy a lifetime of his work!!!

I have a TiVo and just recently started watching a LOT of Law & Order. With so many repeats being shown, and with so many episodes to its name, I can honestly say I don't think I've ever seen a more talented and honest actor. You can truly see that he is Lenny Briscoe. A person with a hard sounding voice, but a warm and caring soul. It really pains me to see episodes where this soul comes through, because he is now gone. I remember when he died I never watched the show so I never truly understood why there was such an outpouring of grief with his passing. I can say I now know why and with Law & Order continuing on, I know his amazing spirit will continue to live on through everyone at home, young and old.

I completely agree with you. Jerry was a quality actor, a fantastic human being, and he will truly be missed for ages to come.
I had the opportunity and the honor of meeting both Jerry and Elaine once. My father worked with one of Jerry's cousins (on Elaine's side of the family), and during the holidays, Jerry and Elaine used to spend Christmas Eve at his (my father's colleague's) home. We were invited over one year, and I got to be in the same room with him and shake his hand. Both Jerry and Elaine were very polite and laid-back, and I can confidently say that it was a moment that I will never forget.
I also worked for a close nephew of Jerry's (on Elaine's side of the family), and Elaine's sister, and I can state for a fact that he was a very treasured member of the family.
