Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Christopher Plummer

    islandgirl-465-270896 — 11 years ago(December 26, 2014 02:47 PM)

Just finished reading Chris autobiography. What a rollicking romp of a life he has had.He grew up in Senneville on the island of Montreal and I grew up very close.what a lovely area it was.His roots really are Canadian blue blood but blue blood Anglo at a time when Quebec was going through great transition.A great actor has life, experience and his unique childhood along, with his life well lived adds much to his acting.I loved his description of,Salzburg during the filming of,Sound of Music and his description of the place and the fact that,Austrians can be characters and, sentimrental to boot rang true.Salzburg is beautiful and if you have the right approach.really,sweet.
There is no actor with, quite his combination of traits.I saw him at,Stratford in King Lear. As,a Canadian I would like to see a part and project offered to him which reflects his uniqueness. He is bilingual and it would be neat if a screenplay, might be written for him and based in Montrealwhere it,started, for, him. He always strikes me as having a very, solid ego but would be approachable and affable

I wish that book would be updated. So much has happened in his professional life since it was written!

Perhaps there might be a better descriptor than blue blood even though it is accurate. His grandfather on his mothers side was Sir John Abbott who was one of our early Canadian Prime ministers.Abbott also financed railway building in Canada.Think his family had a hand in founding McGill.he has a neat history.

Ah yes, Abbott was a Tory. I overlooked that detail.

                Hence"blue"blood.
                I am not a tory.far from it.
Plummer seems a strong advocate for the rights of french speaking Quebecers from what he says in his book despite his upbringing. He is fluently bilingual and feels that more anglos should be.I agree.

I live in northern Ontario, where there is a large francophone community. I am an anglophone but I regret hot having learned French.
