This is NOT to the original poster, but to all of you other nitwits:
First off, I'm not defending nor condoning his wife, but some nerves you got!
Why is that everyone's an expert of psychology? "She's mental!" - What a conclusion made from rumors. If you know her in person and is a good & understanding person with real life experience (You'd have more/better manners than to be here, and not a very good friend!) who can really understand ppl. and their behaviors, but foremost why they're acting like they are and do what they do.
To quote many; "Only in America" - Damn true! The only country in the entire world with so many ingrates, nits, whack-jobs and just plain ignorant ppl!
By now many would think that I contradict myself. To some extent perhaps, but I have a broad spectrum (To which you know nothing about!), and I'm pretty good of understanding ppl. (Which too, you know nothing about!).
Most ppl. are very narrow-minded and, as I wrote above, makes whacky conclusions based upon rumors from other ignorant ppl who draw their own conclusion.
Many get their "information" from the media (Which is the worst place to get information since all they care about is ratings, and not how they obtain them!), and (quite often) spins it around to add some twist or other meaning to fit their topic of conversation.
Some people however, do have (Frightening many actually) a dark and psychotic/sociopathic side (For those of you who can't tell the difference; Visit WikiPedia.org) and there aren't any real cure, only therapy and consultation is the only means to help them cope and deal with it.
This is where ignorance come in and many would say lock them up, shoot 'em etc.
Every person has their own way of doing things, and agitating someone just to fit in (Bullying) or just being one of the 'gang' isn't the solution either.
Some of these things (If you let yourself that is!) comes when you're older and (Hopefully!) wiser when you take your life-experience and add two and two together and realize that it becomes four, but most importing; Why that is.
If ppl. could just get their asses out of their head (You read right!), the world would be a much much better place to live in! Prejudice doesn't work, the blacks, the Jews and many others proved that!
This is a huge topic, and I'm a bit tired so forgive me for ranting and jumping around, but it pisses me off to read others assumptions they throw around without having the whole picture of a situation.
Another thing, don't try to lecture me about how wrong I have, what makes you so sure that you're right?
Just because someone has a degree or two in psychology doesn't mean they know it all. That much I can witness personally! Anyone who've been "in the system" knows this how horribly wrong they can be, if they've been unlucky that is.
Btw, if there's anything wrong with my grammar, I'm Swedish and besides that I'm tired!

No actually I'm fairly sure his point was made very clearly, a point you may have just solidified by posting your blatantly idiotic statement.
@Tony_Hedlund, I wouldn't take any notice. Americans tend to get incredibly flustered when they hear someone saying something about their country, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but a vast majority of Americans are either willfully ignorant or intellectually lazy. To think otherwise is to lie to yourself (That is not to say there are some very down to earth/non ignorant people in America, because I'm sure there a few of those around as well.) -

I won't disagree with your opinions of Americans but after living in Europe for yearsFrance, Italy, Germany, Russia, Ukrainethe grass isn't greener on the other side.
I've never met a more racist bunch of hypocrites (and I lived in the American South). They'd make a Klansman blush. Ask any Algerian living in France, any Turk living in Germany or any gypsy living just about anywhere in Western Europe. I've had educated Italians tell me blacks are "like dogs".
They'll criticize American cultural hegemony while wearing jeans (I actually had this happen to me).
If you think Americans succumb to knee-jerk defensiveness try criticizing France in Paris or Russia in St Petersburg (I've seen the results). Nothing worse than holding up Europeans as some sort of standard they don't deserve. -

We Americans always seem to be the ones who are singled out to be judged by the rest of the world (especially Europeans) for our foibles and culpabilities, both real and alleged; but human failings and hypocrisies abound EVERYWHERE on this planet where humans dwell, both here in the USA and abroad.

I think "Tony Hedlund" is really EVI(L) QUAID. Your ranting lost me when I realize you were from beep Sweden. Say what you will with the media, but not ALL media are lies. So stop generalizing like how you generalize ALL Americans as ingrates, nits, whack-jobs and just plain ignorant ppl!
Great, you want us to use wikipedia as a source of information (roll eyes), which BTW contradict your argument about not believing the Media, because guess what! Wikipedia is a type of media or information and so is imdb and the whole world wide web. So if you believe all things from "The Media" are rubbish, you should really hide in a dark whole somewhere and throw away the key. So I guess you're so smart because you get your info from wikipedia.org.

I'm not saying all Americans are "ingrates, nits, whack-jobs and just plain ignorant ppl!" - Just that most you encounter that catch your attention most often is just that.
As for the Wiki-part. I know nothing is absolute, of course, but when it comes to Wiki's they tend to be corrected since they're open for editing, and yes, of course they're filled up with garbage sometimes, but as I just wrote; They're corrected quickly.
About the media, ESPECIALLY FROM THE STATES, sometimes are highly exaggerated, sometimes even falsified just to sell, which is the primary goal as it would seem. On second place I think it's the "actual" story. This I have heard from various sources, so it's not just me who thinks so.

90% of the media lie on a regular basis, whether it be making a story more interesting to appeal to audiences was or whether it be creating a story out of thin air. Most media can actually LEGALLY lie, its called MARKETING. I agree not all media lie, some media are famous for telling the truth. Tony Hedlund did not generalize all Americans, he simply stated that you have plenty of ignorant/intellectually lazy people. While this is the case everywhere in the world America seems to be winning the golden cup in terms of percentages, disregarding 3rd world countries/North Korea etc.

Did you not read the part where he said he had degrees in psychology? I realize as much as the next guy that this is the internet and for all intensive purposes we all have PHDs in psychoanalysis, but my point is that he never said he gets his information from Wikipedia he simply stated that the information regarding what he said is on there.

Look above to previous statement. Plenty of what Wikipedia has to offer is reliable information (Not that I am suggesting you should ever quote said website without further research on the subject).

He also clearly stated that he is Swedish. You may not understand this but that means that he learned English as a SECOND language. You strike me as the kind of person who when is wrong must attack people on a personal level, this and many other symptoms are the signs of an incredibly obnoxious and blatantly ignorant human being. I for one pity you and recommend you seek further education by any means possible. -

I don't care if he has a PHD, that doesn't give him the right to berate people which he clearly does. Maybe PHD stands for Pretentious Hopeless Dick or wait how about Professional Hair Dresser. So, when someone doesn't have a degree their comments are less valid. Please don't pity me I get enough of the self-loathing at home. And yes, that's meant to be obnoxious.
Also, not all posters here are from America. I get tired of people saying America this, America that. I lived in a third world country during a political revolt. Try living in fear everyday when both political rebels and government military are always trigger happy. But enough with the self-pity as you said since I'm nothing but an ignorant human being. As per Tony Hedlund said, people from America are clueless about people from Third World Country, when many citizens from America came from one. -

Yes, Tony it should matter where you're from. Since YOU have a generalize picture of America from your pretentious viewpoint with your quote "Only in America" The only country in the world with so many whack jobs, etc.
You totally contradicted yourself, when people shouldn't label Quiad's wife as mental and yet you yourself labeled Americans as whack jobs, and inconsiderate about third world countries when America has a large population of minorities who came from get this- a third world country!
No America, is not perfect and certainly no country is, however, America has provided freedom and opportunity for me who came from a third world country. I have seen Americans lend their hands and wallets to those in need whether it's natural disaster or a tragedy. I have also experienced racism and prejudice, but I also saw the beauty of Americans and not just Caucasians on how they join hand in hand to fight a cause.
I lived during a political revolt where there are rebels toting an M16 and military tanks roaming the city. Here in America most people would stop and even help someone who needs help. The country I came from, I saw a cop just watching a child get beat up by a syndicate of gangs.
I also, get tired of people saying that you shouldn't believe all the media. People are not dumb, they know when certain stories are hyped and sensationalized. But the truth is still in the story. The Quiads have done this before. His wife have rudely accused and harassed other people. I also have read a Vanity Fair article about his wife over 15 years ago and how she bashed her then sister-in-law Meg Ryan. From the article she strike me as the ignorant American whack job that you mentioned earlier. This was also the fur-wearing woman who mentioned money, money, money and fame throughout the whole interview.
But since you evidently pointed out you have a PhD, I guess my opinion or experiences shouldn't matter. I would have actually respected your comments if you didn't made a vain display of your degree and how American's are a bunch of asses. -

How did this discussion deviate into an ethnocentric rant? Law of averages people. 310 million people in the States, 62 million in the Kingdom, 66 million in France, 34 million in the Dominion (Canada, my wonderful country
blah, blah, blah. This also suggests that the States has more combined intelligence than the aforementioned 3.
