Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — George Reeves

when I look arround and see pictures from him and read what really happend in the last couple of years of his life, I can understand why he killed himself. I saw a couple of episodes from his Superman TV Series, but honestly - am I the only one who thinks he looked just ridiculous? His costume, especially the wide cape looked so terrible. He did not have the right body to be Superman, compared to Chris Reeve, Dean Cain and Brandon Routh - he was to fat and the next thing - he was faaar to old. Wasn't he already 38 when he first played Superman? And when he finished he was 45, wasn't he? All the others were in their mid-twenties and thirties when they played the character. I don't know if everything that was shown in "Hollywoodland", but when he was in another movie and the audience was starting with "Faster than speeding bullett" and all that stuff as soon as he appeared on screen, it's no surprise for me, because he for nowadays he looked just ridiculous and people were making fun of him? I feel sorry for George Reeves and how tragic his life was, but I must say from my point of view he did really waste his life and he said that once to Jack Larson.
That lead to his unusual typcast and that was the reason why he killed himself, I think.
But I know he had a hard life and even if it's almost 50 years since he died, I hope he rests in peace.
