I read once he was hosting a small party at his home the night he died. The story goes that he excused himself because he was ill and retired to his bedroom. Supposedly, someone at the party managed to go to Reeve's room without being noticed, murdered him, then returned to the party. Who knows?

The party was of four people. The story goes that, it was late at night and lots of drinking; which was not unusual at the Reeves home, especially with his new fiance'. Reeves was actually in his room sleeping and came down stairs, yelled at the guests and went back up stairs. That's when his fiance' reportedly exclaimed that "He's going to kill himslef" and shortly there after, they heard gunfire.
One hypothosized sequence of events, put together in "Hollywood Kryptonite", (If I'm recalling the book right, it was actually a midnight confession of the events by Leonore Lemmon, Reeves' fiance as to how events really played out.)
The porch light had been left on, which to those who knew Leonore and Reeves, meant the party was going. A neighbor rings the doorbell and Leonore answers. She talks to this guy briefly, he's new to the area, she's only seen him once or twice and doesn't really know much about him. The other two people supposedly at this "partly" are actually up in the gentleman's room. The gentleman being George's trainer, as he was trying to get into wrestling. The woman, a married neighbor, was sharing his bed. The sequence as I read it, had to have been about 2 years ago or so, is a bit foggy. But I believe at one point George actually came down to see why Leonore was up. George needed to get his sleep as he was preparing for an upcomming wrestling match. He went back upstairs and the two people at the door hear a gunshot. Leonore, shocked, says the first thing that pops into her mind, "he shot himslef". The couple in the bedroom come down to find out what's going on. One or both of the men go upstairs to George's bedroom to see what happened and find him slumped on his bed, dead and naked. They discuss what they're going to do and get their story straight. The married woman is too neverous to talk to the police and Leonore has her go home and she calls a friend of her's, who happens to be a Hollywood Madame, and she comes over and claims to be the neighbor woman when giving the statement to the police. They agree on the story that the three of them were downstair having drinks, when George came down in a bad mood, complained about the noise and then went back to his room. The neighbor man mentions Leonore's remark about "he's going to kill himself" and suggest she add that in the statement. And she does, possibly saying that she predicted that twice before they actually heard the shot; though in later interviews, Leonore claimed she
          never
          said it at all.
The book further hypothisizes that upon returning to his room, in the dark, he encounters man lurking about with a gun. They struggle, and the gun goes off, sending a bullet through the floor. This accounts for the fact that one of the detectives on the scene, found a bullet lodged in the downstairs living room, above the mantle, and a hole in the bedroom floor, matching the trajectory.
There was another part, from the sound of it another "midnight confession" by George's fomer girlfriend, albeit married, Toni Mannix (who's husband had strong ties to the mob) She had become very distraught over George's leaving her and had become relentless in her attempts to either get him back or make his life a living hell. When she went to George's home shortly after his death, accompanied by the actor that played Jimmy Olsen, she knew exactly where the bullet hole in the bedroom floor was, in spite of being covered by a rug. In the story told years later, she had made a calls to one of her husband's 'associates' and sent him over to George's place. She soon realized what she had done and ran to her husband (who was sick in practically on deaths door) and begged him to stop it; but it was too late. This also plays into the fact that she calledone of the actress' that played Lois. Which one it was, escapes me, but I believe it was the first one in the series, with Reeves, that played Lois as she and George had been close friends and she had been sort of friends with Toni. Toni called her,
          late
the night George died and sobbed over and over, "He's dead, the boy's dead." The 'Boy' being her nickname for Geoge.
All in all, a lot of circumstances that are questionable; all the more that makes "Hollywood Kryptonite" an incredible read.
Its not Pat Sajack its Jack Sapat. They made me change it. I wont see ya tomorrow on WE ARE HORSES!

Just found out about this in the documentary. Didn't know there was a mystery behind it all.
I personally don't think he shot himself. The gun had no finger prints on it. I don't think someone who was going to commit suicide would clean the gun of finger prints. That's the thing that I find odd about it- at least from what the documentary told.
I don't think it was suicide. He was murdered.

Also very difficult to clean the fingerprints - after you shot yourself!!!!!
Don't know the story well enough to comment but how can someone shoot himself but no fingerprints on the gun? I'm confused if that makes sense.

It has been one of the most mysterious deaths in Hollywood, where many facts can be pointed to both suicide and/or murder.

Ke16d0ep in mind, that the new "TV Show" was another Superman series, and Reeves didn't like playing Superman.

He was shot twice but they only found one bullet that mixed with the fact he was very drunk that night and pissed off at the fact this couple showed up after a party at his house had ended, helped force the police into saying it was a suicide.

His death was rather suspicious (I think he was murdered) but I guess we'll never really know what happened.

I think he was murdered. Too many reasons to do so. He still had a lot to live for and no prior long term depression.
