Very interesting article, Bunnymonsterz. I enjoyed "Maid in Manhattan" for what it was, a frothy, fun romantic comedy. That's all it tried to be an it accomplished its goal. It was great fun watching Natasha play such a vain, nose-in-the-air character, because everything I've ever read about her indicates that she was the exact opposite: a total peach with a heart of gold. Plus, she and Ralph Fiennes looked so sexy together.

"Plus, she and Ralph Fiennes looked so sexy together. "
I think that was part of the problem with the movie. Even though Natasha's character was meant to be an annoying figure of fun, she looked terrific, had amazing charisma, great chemistry with Ralph Fiennes, and her character was way more interesting than J-Lo's. IMO, one had to be a big J-Lo fan not to notice all of the above. -

"While J-Lo insisted on a personal entourage of 20, a fleet of limousines and every whim taken ca2000re of at a glitzy party," wrote Tim Adams in The Times of London of the film's publicity tour, "Richardson traveled alone, took taxis and asked for nothing more daring than afternoon tea. And in the battle of sassy against classy, the class won hands down."
UGH, reading this makes me hate J.Lo even more than I already did (as if that was even possible). Natasha being so down-to-earth like that, makes me admire her even more. And I agree that Ralph and Natasha's characters made much more sense together. But then again that's a rom-com/Cinderella story for ya.

I think the film was marketed in a way to present J-Lo as the true star of the film. Ralph Fiennes was barely mentioned in press releases or trailers around the time of the film's release. I do agree that maybe Natasha and Ralph looked too good together, which muddled the tale a bit. But I think that the J-Lo fan wouldn't care, because at the end, the leading lady got her prince charming.
