    Some bizarre Top 5 lists on here. Most of Rodriguez films have been incoherent and shambolic. For some reason A list actors and character actors agree to work with him for pittens. The only reason must be that his sets and movies are fun to work on. They are quick and pay moderately well. To give him credit, he is inventive and creative. As a grindhouse tribute, Planet Terror was more reflective of the genre than Tarantino and Sin City was pretty pioneering with the use of green screen, colour etc.
    However, as a storyteller, he is very poor. Sin City benefitted from the input of Frank Miller clearly. And From Dusk Til Dawn was by and large a Tarantino movie. But come on, Once Upon a Time was a shambles. The Spy Kids movies are poor, even my kids think so. Four Rooms was terrible. Desperado was just a mess. The Faculty was poor etc etc etc.
    Besides, in this medium, given that the story is king, and if possible, some kind of depth is a virtue. How can any Top 5 list of current directors not include any of th following (in no particular order);

    1. Paul Thomas Anderson
    2. The Coen Brothers
    3. The Dardenne Brothers
    4. David Fincher
    5. Jacques Audiard
      Add to that list Scorsese, Nolan, Shane Meadows, Wes Anderson, Kelly Reichardt, Clint Eastwood, Wong Kar Wai, Eastwood, and yes yes Woody Allen, Terrence Malick Rodriguez is a little amateur.
      Having said that, I would like Machete to be good because I do admire the fact he gets whatever movie he wants to make, made.
      Peace,

                  Which ones don't you like? There's all three El Mariachi movies, Sin City, Planet Terror, Machete, From Dusk Til Dawn, The Faculty and even his segment of Four Rooms.
                  Cut out the kids movies and he's got a pretty good track record.
