Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Robert Rodriguez

    paulww — 14 years ago(September 06, 2011 06:39 AM)

THEY ARE GROUND BREAKING AND VERY SPECIAL. THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE THEM. THEY ARE FOR CHILDREN AND PEOPLE WHO LOVE CHILDREN. ROBERT RODRIGUEZ LOVES CHILDREN. HE IS DOING WHAT HE LOVES. HE LOVES GRINDHOUSE TOO, BUT HE FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY THAT MOST 5b4PEOPLE DON'T, AND HE IS BORED WITH SIN CITY. THINK OF HIM AS THE NEW DISNEY. WE CERTAINLY NEED ONE.

Granted Spy Kids 1 & 2 were fun family movies but all the other kids movies he's done have been awful.

Holy beep Calm down. Then again he made for example 2 Machete films and Planet Terror after making 3 Spy-kids. They may be great movies for kids but Robert Rodriguez really didn't need to make them.
                Same rules apply laughs hysterically

Rodriguez is not the new Disney. He will never be the new Disney. I'm not even a Disney fanboy and I can say with 100% certainty that Rodriguez and Disney shouldn't even be in the same sentence. Rodriguez isn't on the same levelnay, isn't even in the same freaking skyscraperas Disney.
Granted, I like his movies. His adult movies.
His kids movies are freaking terrible. Spy Kids 1 and 2, I'll admit, are somewhat watchable, but still stupid, and the other two SK movies are horrible. Sharkboy is utter beep and somehow Shorts is even WORSE.
The ONLY good things I will say about his kids films is that they actually show that he put some effort and imagination into them. Each of his movies has some sort of imaginative characteristic going for it.
But aside from that, they're total crap.
You're right about one thing though; there IS nothing else like them.

Welcome to the middle of nowhere-
                  -the center of everywhere.

lmao its funny how u say hes "bored" of sin city" back when u made this post in 2011, but he still loves spy kids.
He made 1 sin city movie, and it was only a couple years ago by ur timeframe, but hes made like 5 spy kids movies all with varying budgets and quality.
                    SPY KIDS ALL THE WAYEEEEEEEEEEEEee
