Personally I think he should have gotten one for his DP work on Sin City and Once Upon a Time In Mexico. I even think he should have gotten a directing and writing nom for Once Upon a Time In Mexico.
What do you guys think? -

He's proficient on a TECHNICAL level but his writing and directing are often stupid and juvenile. If it weren't for the fact that he made El Mariachi for $7,000, I don't think anyone would call him a great director.

No he has never been snubbed for an oscar. Except for a few of his moives, El Mariachi and Sin City, his story telling abilities are about on par with episodes of Walker Texas Ranger. When is he gonna quit trying to copy grindhouse movies from the 70's that no one really cares about and make something meaningful. He reminds me of Tarantino minus any talent or ability to tell a story. I remember seeing El Mariachi the first time and thinking here is a new director I can't wait to see more of and since then all he has put out is mostly crap.
