I've always wondered why Ginger accepted the biopic HARLOW given the infamous (and inaccurate) legend that "Mother Jean" caused Jean's death because of her Christian Science faith would not allow her to seek medical help. I guess she knew it wasn't true but still the story caused her beloved religion to be seen unfavorably by many (of course the movie did not get into this urban legend at all but still) Mind you Ginger is the best thing about that movie and I think she's very good in the part. I guess she like most of her contemporaries just wanted to work and their were so few movie roles offered in the 1960s to older female stars.
Ginger and Jean might have been a bit too similar to be cast in the same movie but I would imagine they would have gotten along very well if they ever met; I would love it if a candid snapshot of them together would surface, surely they must have met in the 1930's if only at a nightclub or premiere.

I've heard the 'other' Harlow film (with Carol Baker, not Lynley) was the better of the two need to see that one Ginger noted the entire film was shot in 8 days! I guess she li5b4ked the role as she was a part of the era it portrayed, and something tells me she was probably a Harlow fan of sorts she probably gleaned a lot from Harlow's style and persona. As for the role, Ginger was unfortunately getting older, and the industry back then wasn't too kind to aging actresses and she was not as fond of the 60s roles, which were becoming a lot more 'open' with topics and dialog.
it's always been interesting how Harlow and Ginger 'parallel' so much both born in 1911 Missouri, each had 'strong' mothers, each were Christian Scientist, each ended up in Hollywood just sad that Jean didn't live a full life I do concur they were pretty similar, especially in the early-mid 30s Ginger is very 'Harlowesque' in Professional Sweetheart, just in a general sense of being a 'untamed woman' of sorts I need to catch up on my Harlow films - have quite a few, but have only watched a couple so far def something to look forward to!

___For what was a dreadful film, Ginger is absolutely the best thing about 'Harlow'. She is as if I remember this right by Pauline Kael, "Ginger is both lushly beautiful and beautifully ravaged, and one wonders why she isn't doing more in film" Actually, during this period 63-68, Ginger was incredibly busy, TV films Cinderella, Bob Hopes Chrysler Theater. Movies like Harlow, Quick, Lets Get Married. Theater, Hello Dolly, Mame. Appearances on Lucy, Game Shows. She could hardly have been any busier. And, she looked fantastic!

exactly I recently 're-viewed' Harlow, and, while not QUITE as bad as I remember, it was definitely shot in 8 days more or less, as Ginger noted but this was when she was 'transitioning' to stage, and also some TV appearances REALLY wish she would have been able to have a TV show - she did do a 'pilot', but for whatever reason, just didn't fly
          Ginger ALWAYS looked fantastic!!!
but her mid-60s style and beauty was just incredible there's unfortunately not enough footage of her in this era (for me, anywaywish someone would have thought to film more stage performances back then), but what film / pics there ARE out there is gorgeous!

Many believe that she knew down deep inside that she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag. Hence, she turned down any role which required actual acting. She was best suited for dancing backwards and blinking her eyes.

, I know what you are now You are a
              FLAMER
! Someone who posts nonsense in order to start fights!
But, since you refuse to get off your lazy butt, and educate your ignorant self, I'll do it for you
Many believe that she knew down deep inside that she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag.
RKO didn't think so. Ginger Rogers was one of their biggest stars, and was the lead star in many of their movies. Those pictures always brought in audiences and made a bunch of money! People went to see Ginger Rogers!
Many believe that she knew down deep inside that she couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag.
She was in several films where her acting was superb You might see that too, if you actually took the time to see her movies, instead of coming here and trying to bash her because you are a
              FLAMER
              !
Though, I do have to admit, even being a huge fan of hers, she was miscast in a couple of stinkers
She was best suited for dancing backwards and blinking her eyes.
No, she won her Academy Award for Kitty Foyle (1940) a movie which was not a musical, and she wasn't dancing backwards throughout the film.
Many of her best films were ones that Didn't feature her "dancing backwards".
Ginger Rogers had very beautiful eyes, and could very easily have used them to help her career but she never needed to "blink" them to do so. She could actually ACT!
              Have A Magnificent Day!

She knew she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, coreymax23? Is that why she won as Oscar? Is that why she survived in movies for such a long time? Is that why she was a Broadway star as a teenager? Is that why she was the West End's highest paid star?
I've checked your IMDb messages for the last 24 hours. They are full of hate for Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, Sharon Stone, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Jason Priestley, William Baldwin. You've got nothing nice to say about the stars you've written about. Why bother posting on IMDb message boards? You're a hater!

He is what they call a "Flamer" & doesn't really mean it. He is just posting here to start a fight.
Probably one of those "reasons" why IMDb is closing these message boards.
