    Jewish is a religion.
His ethnicity is where his family originates from.
Isnt his family German or Austrian?

Jew is also an ethnicity.. in many cases, saying a person is a jew says more about how he looks than saying german or whatever other country.

Saying a person is a "jew" instead of saying he is Jewish says more about you than it does about the other person.

What's wrong with saying someone is a Jew? "He is a Jew" or "He is Jewish" both mea5b4n the same thing.

            I'm old.
There was a time when bigots used labels to dismiss as beneath them anyone who wasn't just like them
            vis-a-vis
race, ethnicity, nationality, economic level, religion, sexual orientation, etc.
I remember when there was a difference between
            labeling
            someone "a Jew" and
            describing
            someone as "Jewish".
I will admit that either there is less bigotry in the world now than there once was or else it's gone underground, bigots are becoming better at hiding it.
            Get it?
            Got it!
            Good!

God, I hate political correctness. I agree with holchie. Saying someone is a Jew, or saying someone is Jewish, is the same freaking thing.

                Do you really think so?
Have you ever tried expressing that opinion to someone
                a) not Anglo-Saxon
                and
                b) over 50 years of age?
You might be surprised at their lack of agreement.
I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

Yes. The English language is whatever you want it to be.
                    "Like" is a noun.
                    "Text" is a verb.
And what used to be a bouquet is now a "bokay".
And now "there", "they're", and "their" are all the same word.
As are "to", "too", and "two".
Aren't you glad you didn't have me teaching your Literature class?
The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.

Jew here with many over-50 year old fellow Jews in my family members. Not offensive to be called a Jew in the least. It's the exact same thing as calling someone who follows Christianity a Christian, or someone from Europe a European.

Okay. I'll give you the possibility that saying, "He is a Jew." isn't as pejorative today as it would have been 40+ years ago.

For bugger's sake. Jew! Jewish! For years, I never understood all of the hatred directed towards Jewish people. Frankly, I still don't. From what I remember being told, after asking, Jews were blamed for the death of Jesus (wasn't he Jewish?) So, an entire people, was blamed for someone's death. Is that right? Religion, and religious-sanctioned hatred, boggles and disgusts me at the same time. Anyway, back to David Schwimmer's ethnicity. If 'Jew was said with malice, then it was inappropriate. But if stated as simple fact, what's the problem?
